I'm in the planning stages of installing a sound system right now. Trying to figure out the right balance between sound and cost, specifically with the subwoofers. I'm thinking two 10 inch subs behind the seats should suffice, I'm just not sure how much power they should put out and what constitutes a good sub when looking at other specs.
Any recommendations for which subs to buy? I don't need to make people's ears bleed, just a nice thump.
For example, would these work?

Have no idea if they would work. I'm just watching this thread because I am going to have to replace my radio and speakers pretty soon.
Maybe someone has an idea of what fits best in the dash of the 5th gen? Mine still has the original AM/FM/cassette....and I think it has seen (or heard) better days.

Those subs should work fine in your car. What you need is an amp that can run the two subs and provide them with plenty of power. 250 Watts RMS is fairly good at power handling. My sub is 60 RMS and it's loud enough for me. If you get those subs, you need a box to hold each one in. I know walmart and probably BestBuy sell pre-made 10" sub boxes. You could get two of those. 4 ohms is common in todays speakers and your amp should be a 4 ohm amp. Also, the lower the HZ rating is, the lower the sound will go. 20HZ is the lowest the human can hear. Those probably go to 30-40HZ, which will be low enough. One 10 would probably be good for your car if your looking to save some money. It all depends on how much bass you want. My 120Watt (max) sub is more than enough for my car, but I have a friend who has an 800 watt sub in his car.

Dash speakers are 3.5" stock. I have sony 3.5s in the dash. The originals have more bass but the Sonys have way better tone quality(mids and treble). I also have an aftermarket Sony radio. I know that WalMart sells dash kits to make new radios fit and look good in our dashes. That's what you could do with a new aftermarket radio.
