I installed new coil springs a couple weekends ago and replaced the lower ball joints at the same time. I am going to go back in and install the missing rubbers that go on top of the coil springs and replace the upper ball joints and control arm bushings. However it looks like the upper ball joints press into the upper control arm, but there doesn't apear to be an opening in the control arm to push them out with a ball joint press, so is there a different tool or am I incorrect in my initial assesment. It apears that I would need a different ball joint puller rather than a press. I'm sure a lot of you have had experience with this and if you could shed some light onto the removal and installation so I don't have to figure it out as I go, it would sure make my life easier and I would much apreciate it.
Thanks

...However it looks like the upper ball joints press into the upper control arm..
The original upper ball joints in your 87 are riveted to the UCA. There are four rivets per ball joint. You'll need to get a small grinder and grind the heads of the rivets off and then use a drift or a punch to get the rest of the rivet out. Once the rivets are out the ball joint will lift right out. The new ball joint will come with four bolts, washers, and nuts to take the place of the rivets.

Ah, now that you mention it I do remember seeing what looked like rivet heads on top of the control arm, so that would make sense. I apreciate your information on this and hope I can help you out some time in the future in the same mannor.

Speaking about upper ball joints. Does anyone have any experience with the taller ball joints which supposedly give you better roll control during camber changes?

The only thing I've heard of is oversized ball joints in case the control arm is worn and it doesn't press in well, but that would only apply for the lower ball joints. Let us know if you come up with anything else about the taller ball joints.
