I noticed last night and today that at random times while driving or starting the truck, white smoke will start billowing out of my passenger exhaust pipe. With the smoke my oil pressure gauge goes down. About 5 seconds later the smoke just stops and the oil pressure goes back up. Anybody know what this problem could be, i dont have the slightest clue, but know it probably isnt good.

On another topic, anybody know where i can buy vinly flooring for my 5th gen?

I don't know about it coming and then going away, but white smoke out one pipe only is usually a leak in the head gasket. I is leaking between a water vein into a combustion chamber. The white smoke you see is water vapor.

If the coming and going takes place during engine warm up to hot, then the temperature change could cause the "coming and going", due to expansion and contraction of the head and gasket.

It sounds like a mystery, good luck,

On your '79, have you removed the single converter and gone to true dual exhaust?

Also, does the drop in oil pressure coincide with a drop in RPM. I can't see any way smoke and oil pressure could be related.

Are you losing water from the cooling system?

hey all

I thought that I would let ya know that is the exact same problem I had with my 79 El Camino with a 267 motor. You need to have a valve job done on your heads. It ain't that much work in reality so just take the heads off which isn't hard than bring them into a shop and it will run ya a couple hundred but at least the car will continue to run and it won't have you worring about anything so check that out.

Could it possibly be a valve sticking? :?

No a sticking valve would be noisy. It sounds like a coolant leak into the combustion chamber, are you looseing coolant? The oil pressure problem is odd and shouldn't be connected. I would get a simple check done to check for exhaust gases in the cooling system. Coolant leaking into the combustion chamber and oil also causes a milky appearance on the dipstick; have you checked?

Its hard to tell if it is noisy or not. It only lasts just a few seconds and it's hard to hear with the glaspacks on my car

It could be that you need new valve seals and maybe you have some piston slap or a lifter going bad, when your engine is cold.
