I recently had a 350 ingine built for my 85 el camino with a edlebrock manifold and 600 carb. the carb. keeps loading up and i'm thinking of using a morti port system. any one know of a place where they sell used systems. .

You can pick up a GM setup from most Junk Yards. If that is the route then be aware that the GM MPFI is designed to operate at idle to around 4500 RPM and produces good low end torque but not a lot on the top end, a Carb is better all around. Edelbrock has a new MPFI set up that resembles the GM type but they use a modified Victor Jr. intake which will produce better torque on the upper end and a more flat power curve from idle to around 6500 RPM.

Just a thought. :D

elky pete, thank you for your reply about my morti port system that i'm thinking about getting. the reason i'm so discusted with this carb. and intake is the valves are tapping and the only way i can get them to stop is to retard the timing. i don't have a EGR valve in the intake and i don't know if thats a part of the problem or not. the carb. will start up in the morning with no problems it has a electric choke. but it doesn't want to start unless i hold the accelarator all the way down, after its warm this can get to you after awhile. i 'm still using the fuel pump thats in the fuel tank . i put a pressure reducer on and its working with a 4or 5 lbs of pressure which is about right one of my friends sugested that i put a pressure reducer on with a return to the gas tank. i'm kind of stuck right now and don't which way to go, with a fuel injection or stay with a carb. we have emissions here in Maryland i have been trying to stay legal . i put true duels on with some light flow masters and a converter for each muffler. i hope this get me to pass when i go to get checked again. if you or any of your friend have any suggestions i will be happy to hear them.

Are you trying to use an in-tank fuel pump for a electronic fuel injection system with a carburetor? If you are reducing the pressure to 4-5 psi there is probably not enough fuel volumn for your carb. Lean mixtures will cause ignition pinging. Get a proper fuel pump and fuel tank pickup and you might solve many of your problems.

If your valves are "tapping" I would take the following action: First of all, go to your local auto parts store and buy a quart of Risolene. It comes in a quart can shaped exactly like a quart of motor oil, but the container is bright yellow in color. Change the engine oil and use the Risolene in place of one quart of oil. Risolene is great stuff for noisy valve lifters. Second, if the valves are still noisy after about a weeks worth of driving, you will need to adjust the valves. If you do not know how, hire a competent mechanic to do the work. Unless there is a mechanical problem in the valve train, these two steps will quiten the valves 90% of the time.

I do believe your problems are mostly in the carburetor. Test and reset that automatic choke. Make sure the choke is not binding anywhere throughout its range of travel. Make sure the choke pull off is working. Sounds to me like it is not working properly, if at all. If everything checks out OK, you should readjust the carb to factory settings.

Good luck.

If I read your post right, your saying that once its warm you need to put the pedal to the floor to start it right? My Edelbrock carb did that too. You need the isolator gasket to prevent heat from soaking into your carb and boiling the fuel. It's around $20 shipped from Summit. This gasket completely cured my carb's problem of "flooding" symtoms when hot.
