: anyone care to add their input?
Dailey 04-15-2011, 07:10 AM Amp finally gave out lol. Anyone got any brand suggestions? I wanna spend less than $150, but I dont wanna buy something crappy like Pyle. I know there has to be a good brand for less than $200. I'm running a JBL GTO-1214 sub. 350 watts RMS and 1400 watts max and its 4 ohms. I want to run about 800-1000 watts to it. Any amp brand suggestions?

I'd go on the Crutchfield website http://www.crutchfield.com/m_100/Car-Amplifiers.html?tp=14. Look at what they have. They also have technical info and advise to help you choose one. Then after finding what you want, go to Amazon.com and see if you can find the same amp there. Amazon has much better prices. That's what I did and got great deals.
swangin50 04-15-2011, 08:27 AM So your looking for a 2 channel or a mono amp? I would go with JL Audio. They have always been good to me but I think they might be more expensive. Kicker is still good, old school rockford fostgates, and some of the soundstreams were pretty good. I still do custom installs, kicker might be your best bet.
Dailey 04-15-2011, 08:45 AM Thanks everyone :nanawrench:. I've heard alot of systems, but I cant seem to make up my mind yet on a brand. I wanted a mono block because they look cleaner than 2 channel amps when running 1 sub.
Zerberfert 04-15-2011, 11:47 AM Pioneer and Kenwood are ok amps. Better than the cheap ones but of course not as good as say a Kicker.
ssr71 04-15-2011, 06:05 PM I've had a pair of Phoenix Gold amps in my Silverado going on 7 years now. Never a problem and they sound pretty good. And you can easily get one under $200.
zach01s 04-15-2011, 07:03 PM MTX makes good strong amps. if you want something nearly indestructable id go with power-akoustic. the sony competition amps (not xplod) are good. im running a sony 1000 amp at 1 ohm stable and its lived for about 4 years now.
Terminator 04-15-2011, 07:06 PM If you are going mono, then I would go Kicker. Try Newegg for good prices. I've been buying computer and electronic equip from them for over 5 yrs now and very satisfied. Plus they have a great return policy.

Richp85ElCO 04-15-2011, 08:30 PM Since your only going to be running one single voice coil sub @ 4 ohm, your best bet would be to run a two channel amp. Reason being is that most mono blocks make the most RMS power at 2 or 1 ohm. If you were running multiple of those subs you could wire them in parallel or to suit your set up but your not. In comparison, with a two channel amp, the price would be significantly cheaper to get to the most RMS output @ 4 ohm, which is what your looking for. With a two channel amp you will be able to bridge the channels together most of which are only 4 ohm bridged stable anyways, and get the most power output for your sub. Appearence wise the two channels will look identical to the mono's because you would only need one rca cable for both and a majority of mono blocks have two sets of terminals for your speaker wires.
I would look for a 2 channel amp that makes between 300-500 RMS bridges @ 4 ohm depending on your budget. Try Sonicelectronix.com I find that it is the cheapest and have had great experiences with them, and shipping is free on most items.
Look thru this page for your brand preference theres some kicker, RF, JL's, pioneers in your price range.

Richp85ElCO 04-15-2011, 08:38 PM BTW i would go with either
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22733_Kenwood-KAC-7205.html it has plenty of adjustments to suit your listening taste
or

out of the ones on that link
Dailey 04-18-2011, 04:02 PM Thank you.. I have a question now though, I'm not new to audio ive done it for a few years not, but I am still confused on some stuff. Do I want to push towards the MAX or the RMS? if its the RMS why do they have such high maxes then?
Richp85ElCO 04-18-2011, 04:38 PM Honestly, because 1400w sounds a whoole lot better than 350w lol. Max is what the equipment can produce/handle for an instantaneous moment while RMS is what it can handle/produce continously. You want to try and match the RMS, and make sure you tune it properly so you dont drive your amp into clipping and damage your speakers. Theres alot more that goes into it but in laymans terms that pretty much sums it up. If you want to learn more i find the website below to be very informative.

Dailey 04-18-2011, 04:44 PM lol thanks. I have people tell me to go towards max and people tell me to go towards RMS. That pretty much clears things up though. Thanks.
my87custom 04-22-2011, 04:21 PM The entire system im running is Rockford Fosgate. including amp, 6x9's, and four 10" subs. Ive found if u keep it in the family, it sounds amazing, i dont think i'll change to another company.
and by the way. Rockford Fosgate P1 10" Series go for about 100$+. and have the range your lookin for. and attractive red looking cone.
good luck!

philipsr24 05-02-2011, 11:09 AM sumtime the pawnshops have fairly new ones cheap you might get lucky and find a good one
Dailey 05-23-2011, 12:24 PM Ok I have another question to ask that kinda adds onto my other question. If I were to run two JBL GTO-1214 subs would I add their RMS and get an amp that runs around 700-800 watts RMS or would I still want one that is 350-500 watts RMS even though I'm running two subs?
Elkyone 05-23-2011, 12:35 PM I personally like the Dual Electronics brand of audio equipment, I have had there equipment for over 3 years and still sounding just a great as when it was installed.
baxter2w2 05-23-2011, 01:41 PM millionbuy.com good deal on all electronics
Richp85ElCO 05-23-2011, 04:38 PM if your going with two find one that makes:
2 Channel
around 350rms per channel @ 4ohm
or
around 700rms if you find one thats 2 ohm stable bridged
Mono
around 700 range @ 2 ohm
you can even use a four channel which will probably be cheapest to get to that level. In case you want to look for a four channel, look for one that makes around 350rms bridged @ 4 ohm per set of channels bridged.
Hope this makes sense
jlcustomz 05-28-2011, 10:36 AM One small tip here, regardless of brand or price, paying more attention to rms ratings AND useing a powerful enough amp with input gain and eq settings low enough to not produce audible distortion will dramatically affect life of amps AND speakers. For bass use ,large enough capacitor & or 2nd battery near amp will help performance as well as extending amp life by not starving it. other small details such as mounting amp in appropriate location & position can also make acheap product live where an improperly set up one may fail. Guess there are no small details.:secret:
