This looks like a great site. I'm looking forward to restoring my '84 Caballero. I do have a question right off. I've run a diagnostic (check engine light style) and I'm getting an error code 54. The book says that it's a Power Control Module problem. I do have a wire coming from my transmission that has a connector that kind of reminds me of a fuse (male end). I don't know where this is supposed to connect to. My manuals don't seem to want to help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

By the way, I forgot to mention that it's a 305 8 cyl with automatic transmission. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the family mass! The only wires that i can think of that would come from the tranny would have something to do with the lockup.

Welcome to the board,
My source shows that code 54 is a Mixure Control Solenoid problem .
The mixure control solenoid voltage is high at the ECM because of a shorted M/C solenoid circuit and/or a faulty ECM.This is for a carburated engine.
This wire your talking about ,is it under the hood or down and around the tranny ?Give us a color and location of the wire in question and maybe someone will be able to identify it.
There is a wire that alot of people disconnect from the tranny when they are having trouble with the lock up converter,This will disable the overdrive. There is a solenoid in the tranny that sometimes don't release and your car shutters and sometimes vibrate when comming to a stop so they unhook the power source and run without O/D.Or if you have a 350 with a lock up the same applies.

Thanks for the info. I hope that you allow some dumb questions on this board. I've already asked one. The wire that I thought went to my tranny actually doubles back at the rear of the engine and ties into the wire harness again. After closer inspection, it doesn't go to the transmission after all. I still don't know what it's supposed to connect into, but maybe I'll be able to upload a photo so that I can reference it with a url. Sorry for the false alarm.

I'll be diggin into the manuals this weekend to figure out what goes where. It's apparent that someone has made some modifications, and I'll need to figure out all of the correct vacuum hose connections, wires, etc. I'm sure that I'll have more questions next week. Most of them will be related to what connects to what if I can't figure it out from the manual or from the under hood diagram.

Thanks again for the assistance.
