I have a 85 ELKY with a 305 or 307 V 8 Stock with a New rebuilt engine. When I was younger speed and power were the key words however now that I'm older saving on gas and treating my 85 ELKY as gentle as I can are the key.
I so far have put 40 pounds of air in the tires, bought the Torando Gas Saver and placed a plywood against the tailgate to deflect air. I drive it like a baby and apply light pressure on the gas petal when taking off.
I have been think of replacing the rear end--placing 16" rims instead of 14" rims on the rear tires. I Love my El Camino and use it as my work car and don't want to get rid of it. My question for the members is have any of you increased your gas mileage by doing something I have not.
My only complaint about ELKY's is their terrible gas mileage--with gas here in San Antonio, Texas hitting $1.70 and the price of gas in California being $2.37 can anyone help with some suggestions??
Thank You Very Much
Robbie
