I want to replace my 72 gauge cluster w/ Auto Meter gauges. But I've discovered that the dash is one piece. The instrument cluster is part of the dash.
Is there a dash available which has the instrument cluster separate? Or do I have to cut the original instrument cluster out of the dash to make the replacement cluster fit?

Which type dash do you have? The basic "sweep" speedo or the "SS" round gauges?
The sweep style dash is actually a cluster module that is bolted into the dash carrier. You can remove it and insert an aftermarket gauge panel.
Metrom makes an aluminum insert that fits into that opening.

I have an SS w/ the round gauges.
So I have to get a sweep style dash first, then I can get the round gauge cluster insert.
That helps. All I need to do now is find a sweep style dash to start with.

Mebbe we can swap. I want the SS style (even picked up a '71 Monte Carlo dash) which I've started resto on.
But, even if we don't, I would hesitate to hack up a genuine SS dash, unless it's already been cut upon. I've seen dashes up on Craigslist every now and then.

ssr71; can I buy this and expect to mount it in my 72 without a lot of problems to work through? I have the sweep speedo & idiot lights too and would sure like to convert to the round guages.
