With the current engine I am building for my 84 gmc, there is no way on gods grreen earth i am going to hook up with the factory 14" rims and tires. With a stock 305 it will already spin the one tire that powers me. So i want to raise the entire car enough to install a set of late 80 Iroc z-28 rims(15's) and atleast 60's on front, and the widest tire I can place on back. At one point I was looking at a 295/50/15 for rear.

I do not like air shocks, because, I have a horriable vision of nailing the throttle, hauling butt at 70, and devoping a air shock problem where the back end meets my tire introducing me to a flip that would make a stunt man proud. Can I install 1/2 ton Pick up coil springs and raise the entire vehical up enough for 15's to clear comfy as i beleive that elkies use passenger coil springs. I replaced all the shocks with a heavy duty shock and gained a whopping inch. Any raising tech solutions would be a huge help. And I am working on your average joe budget as I have already dumped about 1800 into engine parts and am just setting the crank tonight.

Elkies do use pass car springs. I used g-body (malibu) station wagon springs on the rear of my 83 and it raised it consideribly. You could probably find a set of early model big block springs to use in the front.

WHATS INVOLVED IN INSTALLING REAR SPRINGS?

Get the rear of the Elky frame up on jackstands. Let the rear end hang down on the trailing arms and shocks. Compress the old springs to remove them. Compress the new springs to install them. Piece of cake.

PO had put some tall springs under the rear of this '84 El Camino when I bought it. I don't like it with the rear end so high. The car rides with a definite nose down look. Wanna trade? Where are you located? I'm in Wichita, KS.

As '87 noted, swapping rear springs is a piece of cake.

Cinder blocks (as well as other building materials) can also be used to lower the rear end of just about any vehicle.

TO THE PERSON WANTING TO GO FROM 14" TO THE RALLY '80 CAMARO 15".I'VE RUN THESE W 245/50 R15,BUT NOT MUCH MORE THAN THAT.I'V SINCE GONE TO 16" W225/60.THE SPRINGS ARE NOT TOO COMPLICATED.YOU REALLY DON'T WANT THE REAR TOO HIGH,OR YOU'LL HAVE NO BITE + A NASTY HANDLING ELKY.IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TRADE W THE OTHER MEMBER,MOOG ALSO MAKES A "CARGO COIL",OR A "COMFORT COIL".IT HAS CLOSER WINDINGS @ THE TOP THAT ARE SOFTER,THEN STD SPACING FOR THE REST.THEY GIVE A GOOD RIDE,NOT STIFF,BUT LESS GIVE AFTER THE 1ST INCH OR SO.I CAN GIVE YOU A WEB PAGE FOR MOOG G BODY IF YOU WANT.

Yes, wagon springs or spacers on the spring pockets or air bags(I love my bags). 245-60s fit in the wells nicely with out the need to jack up. Cya, Even though I am not a fan of white, thats one nice looking elky.
