New kid.....first dumb question. I love the way a 1970 EC looks. And, it would make a great show car and driver. But I also need something to pull my Corvette on a trailer. Car and trailer weight: about 5000 lbs. is this possible with an EC? Also, what is the wheel base?
Thanks

CAUTION WILL ROBINSON!!! I would not advise towing 5,000 pounds with an Elcamino. The back end is far too light for that kind of weight, not to mention the weak suspension. I tow a small fishing boat with my truck (total weight less than 800 pounds) and I have to exercise extreme caution. The truck does not stop well at all with the trailer behind it and if the pavement is wet during hard braking, the back end often is pushed around very easily by the weight. I can tell you from experience that the sensation one gets from the rear end being pushed around is down right scary. Then get set for some real excitement when towing in the hills with numerous curves. I do it all the time in the Great Smoky Mountains and it can be hair raising!! About 40 MPH in the mountains is all my nerves will allow and that's on Interstate 40.

It may be possible to modify the suspension, add weight in the rear, etc. but I would not try it.

We have towed our 2000 lbs 18' Tahiti jet for years. Throw in camping gear and clothes/food for week and the payload with boat trailer is easily 3000 lbs plus 3 in the cab. This is in a slightly dropped 66 with tight suspension and good brakes. I'd rather pull with that than my Durango-the Elco pulls real nice.

You can swap out the junk half-a$$ attempt at 4-link that the general put in the back and build a nice truck-arm set-up and it would be the ultimate tow rig.

With the right hitch installed and upgraded suspension, you should be able to do this...but if I had a 70 El Camino, (especially an SS) I'd consider using the Vette as the tow vehicle.
