: 1001 uses for an Elky
1982 SS 05-08-2004, 04:52 PM Please post your unusual use for an El Camino
As I was sitting in my wheelchair (I busted up my ankle pretty good a while ago) I had my tailgate down and I put my leg up and found that the heel of my foot fit nicely in the crevice between the tailgate and the rest of the bed. So I decided that my El Camino made a great foot rest as well as a great cruiser. :)
theelcaminofactory 05-08-2004, 05:21 PM I use my Elky to irratate my wife...maybe that's not so unusual!
lowelcam96 05-08-2004, 05:54 PM It happenned once, but we had a huge backyard summer BBQ, and since my Elky's bed was low enough, we put one keg, coolers, and a bunch of 6packs of soda etc. Then filled the bed with ice :) , it was cool 'cuz no kids can get to it and mess up the ice, didn't have my camera that day.
82Ellie 05-11-2004, 10:00 AM On Mother's Day I had to go to the local "watering hole" (a natural spring we have around here...our tap water has chlorine in it at the moment) and I had to wrap my mom's gifts...After I found out that I forgot tape, an went to the gas station to buy some, I sat in the back end and wrapped her gifts...Makes a great wrapping station!
And uh, I think we can all figure out another use...After all, it IS called a bed! :D
(What, I meant so you can save $$ on a road trip!!! :P Hotels are expensive!)
72ss454Florida 05-11-2004, 10:19 AM here's a VERY unusual purpose for mine....I drop the tailgate and use it for cutting lumber and other such work things!! 8O
who woulda thunk it, huh?
BigRed 05-11-2004, 04:38 PM When we BBQ outside in the evening we usually put the gate down and pull up some chairs. The kids are small and they just sit in the bed and eat. El Picnic table.
Howard 05-11-2004, 07:22 PM We tied up my buddy in the back of my Elky, covered him in honey and feathers for his stag and paraded him around town honking our horns and having a great ol time..Its ok, we made sure to fill him full of beer afterwards and hose him off:P
camino81 05-12-2004, 05:25 AM Right now the only use of my elky is the bed, it makes a great storage area for part while redoing the elk.
motorbreth 05-12-2004, 02:29 PM hmmm... well the bed of mine is used to fill the cab up with water when it is left in the rain!!! or rather the rust holes around the bed are for that!! actually i have used the bed of my elky for many drunken teenage romps. o the good ol' days.... which i will not be talking about.
Elky77 05-12-2004, 06:33 PM I used mine yesterday and today to take the lawn mower in for it's annual service, tune-up and blade sharpening. I push the mower up against the cab and stick a 2X4 behind the back wheels of the mower to keep it from rolling around.
On the way back today, I found myself sitting at a stop light, no traffic around, a cool song on the radio, and couldn't resist pushing on the gas pedal.
The forward launch caused the mower (which I forgot about) to jump the 2X4, roll back in the bed, the handles hit the chrome molding on the top of the tail gate, and gave me two nice dents.
Shame on me, but what else are these cars for?

Scully 05-12-2004, 06:57 PM In our town on the last day of school there's a tradition of kids throwing water balloons at each other on their way home - my 13 year old kid convinced me it would be cool to pick him up from school and let him and his pals stand in the back of my Elky while I drove (slowly) down the street and let them peg all the other kids with water balloons.
The guys had a blast and I was in stitches from laughing so hard watching them all have fun. My wife thought it was "irresponsible and dangerous" and made me promise never to act so foolishly again. So I swore the boy to secrecy - told him if he kept his mouth shut & kept it a secret, we'd do it again. Sometimes a man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do...
78 Elky 05-12-2004, 07:01 PM I use mine as the neighborhood alarm clock. 3 inch pipes and two chamber flowmasters wake up my neighbors at 6 am 5 days a week during the summer time :D
They like old cars though so it ok.
coollw 05-15-2004, 11:29 AM  I use my '82 as a mosquito fogger. All I have to do is set the Hollley carb a little rich, and then tear a__ around my neighborhood, and mosquitos be gone.
Lemmy 05-17-2004, 07:59 AM Well, i did use my Elky few time as a place to sit in the sun in a beach. We had pair of chairs and sun-umbrella, in a back of my Elky and cooler with beers in the cabin. Only bad part was that we were never in condition to drive afterwards... so we had to call a friend to drive us to home...
