Hello everybody, I just joined up and wanted introduce myself as a new member! I have a 79 El Camino with most of the restoration already done; just a few things left to do, but she (her name is Bessy) drives really nice. Hope to get to know ya'all and learn as much about the elky's as possible and tweak ol Bessy to be a nice daily driver.

She started life based on her VIN number with a 267 v8 but when I got her she has a 350 v8 with a matched out tranny and rear end.

Currently tho I am curious about her paint.
Does anyone know if Powder Blue was factory paint for '79?

Edit note: I just added a few pictures to the 5th generation members gallery. Lemme know what ya'all think....

Welcome aboard...I think those of us from Georgia are the second largest state representation of membership right behind Texas.

On your paint question, I'd say my first impression is no, it's not an original color. But I'll do a little research....

Here's a link to some option decoding: http://www.camaros.net/shop/options.html

That's all I've found so far...

I am pretty new to this board but I've been a member of NECOA for a while now. There is a lot of information potentially available to anyone that takes the time to read it. It seems to be a friendly place and I think that you'll like it here.

You can check the orignal paint codes from the ID Plate located under the hood (Driver side) near the windshield. It has the paint and trim codes on it. Someone here can decipher those codes. I think there is a specific page that explains them on this board somewhere.

Welcome! :D

I'd like to find that, I would like to know the true name of the color of my interior other than saying "It's Blue I don't know what color blue, it's blue" whenever I try to order something.

Look on your firewall just below the windshield on the driver side You'll notice a place about 2" X 3" (Approximatly) It will be rivited to the truck. It has a series of numbers and some partial words like BDY PNT something like that. Anyway get those number and write them down just like you see them.

Post them here and we'll see what we can do to make your wish come true!

There were fourteen different solid colors offered for the 79 El Camino. There were three different shades of blue:

21 Pastel Blue
22 Light Blue Metallic
29 Dark Blue Metallic

I think your Bessy has the 21 Pastel Blue. It's the closest one to a Powder Blue.

Thanks Ernie! Your da Man! I haven't had the chance to check the firewall yet, as I spaced where is was supposed to be and checked the inside drivers door, and concluded for a second that it had been painted over or something. But then I checked ElkyPete's last Reply as saw I had messed it up. Goin to check the firewall tonight! But thanks for the blue color Codes! I'll bet a five your right!!
