My 74 has a few lighting issues. First all headlight/running/dash lights work. Turn signals click but no flash or any indicator inside. Rear running lights come on on the two outer lights. Inner lights with the reverse lights are missing bulbs completely. One side seems to have had one patched in but doesnt match the other reverse light harness. Anyone have any part #'s or how these should be wired up? There is a flasher in the fuse box under the dash but haven't replaced it yet.

Thanks for any help as these light issues should be all I need to pass a saftey inspection other than my horn that makes a slight noise but barely audible so I'll have to probably replace the horn itself under the hood. Maybe a nice aoogha horn or maybe a nice big rig sounding one :)

I've got those but trying to figure out what bulb is supposed to go in the reverse pigtails. One that is 2 wire looks original the other is 3 but only using 2 and looks like the two outer ones. Any 4th gen owners have any good pics of them. I checked online and the local autozone has no part # for the missing backup lights

Well, by looking at the diagram I can see that the back-up lamps only have two wires, a black and a lt.green. That being the case then I would suspect that the socket takes an 1156 bulb. If one side has three wires than it would seem someone has replaced the socket. Replace it with a two wire type and recheck. Call the dealership for the correct part, or go to a real parts house.

Real parts house! LOL

But Jesse shops at AUTOZONE! So it has to be the best place on the planet because everyone knows Jesse is the only one who knows anything. If you don't believe me just ask him!

Thanks I found the pigtail on ecparts and will probably just get it there since I'm guessing any I'd find at a salvage yard would be pretty rusty.

I'd go where the cheapest prices are. If that is AutoZone or some other local place then go get it. 1156 and 1157 bulbs. I've picked up door handles and window cranks at Pep Boys, Steel lines at O'Reilly's and lots of AC Pieces and fittings there, AutoZone has some things too, I've gotten the best price on Radiators there.

For me the bottom line is the bottom line when it comes to little things that most everyone stocks.

any one know what causes the red brake indicator light to come on? Fluid level seems ok and the pads are squeaking a little I'll probably replace them shortly. Thanks.

Check the parking brake. Pull the cable with one hand and pull up on the parking brake pedal with the other just to make sure that it is back to it's normal position. The cable could be causing the pedal to hang up and keep the switch open, turning on your light and keeping the rear brakes hanging up as well.

Bad Master Cylinder? Air in the proportioning valve or lines, bad wheel cylinder and finally bad switch / shorted switch on proportioning valve. There is not that much to the brake system. The switch on the E-brake pedal could be shot. Its a very simple switch, basically just two pieces of metal that are separated by air and when the e-brake pedal is pressed in they come together and turn the light on. Disconnect the switch if you think its that to see if the light goes out. If it does check the e-brake and the switch.

I would imagine that its a bad Master Cylinder or a leak in the system. I put a Master Cylinder on my 76 that came off a 72 Pickup with standard brakes (mine are power) and talk about having all kinds of stopping power now. I couldn't buy a master cylinder for my Elky, from any Auto parts store that didn't leak down. This doesn't leak and works fantastic the cap even seals tight. Looks a little different but not too much.

I ended up just nosing around the local autozone and they did have the pigtails for the 1156 and 1157 bulbs. I'll give it a try this weekend and see if it fixes the issue.

Darren, how's the lighting fix going? Got my 77 running better now after I put on a new battery terminal, ground, battery, and clean & tuned the carb. Now I need to tackle the same lighting issues you have to get it inspected and licensed again.

So far I've got the rear lighting working other than the reverse lights but I'm guessing that might not have been hooked up right when the previous owner had the tranny rebuilt.

I've still also got the brake light staying on. I've also got one of my front turn lights not working that the bulb is good but looks like the connector is shot.

The horn is dead but I get a good 12v at the end of the wire so I need to replace that. It is running better after an oil change, resetting the points and adjusting the carb a little bit. I still need to get new plugs for it that should help quite a bit. I've also got a small oil that looks like its coming from the pan so I'll at least be replacing that gasket if not the whole pan.

I've already started checking into insurance for it and I have a lot of the interior out right now cleaning it and getting ready to paint/dye it.

FelPro makes a one piece Oil Pan gasket that would actually be the last gasket you would ever buy for the oil pan. Its a steel shim clad between two rubber or similar materials. The gasket can actually be tightened well without fear of bending up the pan bottom or pinching the cork gasket in two. I wished they made some Valve cover gaskets like the oil pan gasket.

We need to figure out when we can (D/FW People) get together in our Elkys somewhere for a meet and greet sort of thing. I live in Ft. Worth I know that on Saturday evening there use to be a Sonic on Grater SW Pky in Arlington/Grand Prairie area that Muscle car and other enthusiast would get together there. Its mid point between Dallas and Ft. Worth or someplace like that.

I have a large park with lots of parking, lots and lots of parking by my house in Everman (Ft. Worth). It belongs to the city but its a small enough "City" that it is possible that I possibly could arrange to reserve it for a get together if there were enough people. I would like it to be only Elkys but then I'd like to have some real attendance if we did it. Informal.

Any way its just a thought.

A get together would be fine for me. I doubt my Elky will be ready for much action this summer, but I'll still show up to meet everyone and look at the Elkys! Maybe a nice informal cookout at the park or something?

I am hoping to have mine legal before long. I'm in McKinney right around 75 and 380 and would think a get together would be fun. I might be one of the younger ones considering my elky is older than I am.

I've got an insurance quote in the works from Grundy and can get the inspection taken care of easily I just need to get up to the tax office to get the title/registration work done.

Imagine the fear/fun of people seeing all those 4th gen elkys in one place.
