So, I just got my VIN decoded and found out some things I knew and one I didn't. The car is, of course, a 1972 built in the LA plant. It sports a 350 CID 4V engine and it was the 549,829th unit to roll of the assembly line for the model year.
What I didn't know was that there was such a thing as a Custom El Camino (the D). What, pray tell, is a Custom El Camino and does it even help with the value of the car?

Fyi - The production serial numbers started at 500001 and went up so its only the 49,829 A body model built at that plant only. A-body included all in the Chevelle family of cars which the El Camino was. It is not the number of El Camino's built. VIN 549828 could have been a 4-door sedan and 549830 could be been a convertible or just as easily another El Camino.
The up scale model is called the El Camino Custom. It came with carpet on the floors instead of vinyl, had nicer seat materials, more chrome trim on the interior and exterior and other features. Also, certain options like the SS pkg were only available if you ordered the custom model.
Its it worth more, sure as its a nicer model than the plain El Camino

See, I'm showing the Ford side of me! I'm used to the cars starting at 100,000 and going from there! Thanks for the info!
