I have a question, I have a completely stock v6 231 1981 el camino is it worth installing stainless steal ceramic coated headers and a dual exhaust. I know it should give my a little more horse power, and if i make sure the parts are california smog certified I shouldent have a problem with my smog certification ?.

is it worth installing stainless steal ceramic coated headers and a dual exhaust.
.
imo the price of the headers with air tubes and the pain of instaling them is not worth the gain in performance..
and from reading post from other cali members you are limited to 1 cat..you need to check your area laws..
if it was me,and had the 1 cat rules,,i would just add a bigger cat, muffler and tail pipe,,
but i wouldnt expect any real big gains..it would sound better tho..:texas:
is this 81 a tbi/efi or a carb ??

My 1981 231,v6 has a two barrel original rebuilt carburator. I understand about the headers, so I can install a bigger catilic converter and bigger muffler?. what do you think about installing a dual exhaust kit that has two mufflers and is installed after the catilic converter. I think that would be the best, I am trying to have it sound better but my best reason is just to have the engine perform better then it did in 1981. If I get a little more power out of it then it's a pluse, as you can see I am learning and love to work on my hobby like I use to when I was alot younger. joined the military and got away from my hobby but now I'm back. thanks for all your help and i'll try what you recommend. THANKS angrystone.
