Check with the past "owner" to see if they have an old registration slip. It got the vin number on it.

The police or DMV investigators can find it and they will sign an affavdavit or take a photo for you. It's hidden in a number of spots and they know exactly where to look. They won't let you observe, though.

the vin plate is rusted that bad? i had to scuff mine up with sand paper, i would hit it with some 400 grit sand paper and see if the vine stands out enough. the door jam on the driver side theres also a sticker with the vin...:dontknow:

Have you looked at the registration slip?
I believe there was a posting that showed all of the VIN placements for DMV varification a while back for 5 GENs.

The vin numbers are on the title and you can make out all of them but the last one it's a six but has rusted away, there are no numbers on the door jam, I checked that, I have a 63 nova and a 85 fiero and both of them have vin's on the door jam, thank's, Paul

If you have the original engine the vin # is on the block passenger side front of block where head bolts on.

Won't let you observe? You're not allowed to know where a number is stamped on your car?

Not in NY. The numbers are supposed to be hidden from the bad guys so they can't alter them. If they can't find them you end up with a DMV vin number that in no way is close to a real vin.
