: CRaZy loud system in 78 elk/AND YES I CAN BEAT YOUR SYSTEM
D-money 05-12-2004, 02:35 PM I have two yes two kicker solo baric L7 15's, 3000w mono block amp 3 farad cap.
i've had to replace my rear window three times and poped the seal in the front and rear endless times.
The box is not even close to being big enough for these things so i'm goin with a tanneuo cover so i can basically make the entire bed a box.
I really do like your setup though so dont take personal rwg.lol
estimated cost:probably about two grand and still upgrading.
Lente 05-13-2004, 06:01 PM any pics of your setup thanks.
80elcamino 05-13-2004, 07:45 PM Wow, were impressed. {insinuate false enthusiasm here}
I'm glad you can break and rattle your car with amps, but can you do that with your horsepower?
BTW, where did you find all those back windows? I'm looking around for one.
Not to insult you, kid, but you did come off a little cocky. :-D
Lente 05-13-2004, 07:55 PM I got an extra window for rear. THe one in my elky now is fine but a little scratched from the previous owner scraping off ice so I am going to replace it I can send you some pics if you are interested when I take it out the scracthes are not really noticeable but it bothers me
80elcamino 05-13-2004, 09:12 PM this is the same reason i'm looking for a new one. The smallest scratches bother me the most.
D-money 05-14-2004, 10:31 AM sorry if i came off as being cocky but you did to it all depends on how you read it as for the windows i really cant tell you i was just really lucky
i got them for 50 bucks each which is very cheap.
i have no pics yet but will soon.
theelcaminofactory 05-14-2004, 06:07 PM Can you hear me now?..........................Can you hear me now?
eighty_five_el_camino 05-14-2004, 09:14 PM can I hear you now...... wha? can I hear you now?
I thinkI would have spent some on making it go fast instead of being able to be followed by the noise level...
Just me.
Tauric 05-17-2004, 04:43 PM thats funny if i detach my pipes from my headers you can literally hear it 1 mile away
and the writing was cocky... not the interpretation
80elcamino 05-18-2004, 08:56 PM 3000w mono block amp 3 farad cap.
Hey Kid you seem to know your $h!t.
I've JUST installed a system of my own. When i crank it way up the music cuts in and out. Will a farad cap fix this or is a higher capacity amp needed.
I currently run 2 6x9's and 1 10" with a 400W amp.
Thanx in advance!
Lente 05-18-2004, 11:17 PM A farad cap will help with battery drain during loud bass freq drain. What you are prob experiencing is what I have and others I know in past have also. If you are running a high watt system the thing that is commonly overlooked is the car ground. My 442 cutlass would do this with 2 rockford 1000a2 and a 800.4. Update the the body ground and the engine ground of the car with the same gauge wire you are running to your system hopefully it is at least 4 gauge. I always ground my systems to a good frame ground body grounding usually causes what u are experiencing esp. when there is insufficent grounding to start with.
Also if you are putting your gains way too high also you can get a similar thing with distortion. Explain what u mean by cutting out. If music is plain just shuttting off deck, amps, light dim, get cap update grounds. If it plains just cuts out at high loud volumes it could also be your amps protection kicking in cause of the distortion factor and in that case get a bigger amp to push that 10 and you wont have to turn it up as loud. Distortion blows speakers not power.
80elcamino 05-19-2004, 07:25 AM I've got a great ground going to the battery. I'm getting the latter symptom is what I've got. When the bass is about to hit hard it cuts out for about 2 seconds. Your right the red light [which is the overload protection] comes on.
So I guess i need a bigger amp? huh?
PunkRican 05-19-2004, 02:42 PM what kind of amp is that thurr 3000 watt one? is that 3000 rms or 3000 max? i was actually thiunking of getting those 15's myself, but couldnt fidn an amp, whered you get it at?
Elcaminoss31316 05-21-2004, 09:20 AM I'm no stereo amp guru but I have installed the stereo's in all three of my cars... I have had problems hitting the overload protection getting the cutting out etc... that will also happen if your speakers are wired with the worng load. Your amp is rated at x amount of watts @ x amount of ohms resistance... If your speakers are Dual voice coils or if you have two single coil speakers then it makes a difference if you wire then in series or parallel... If you only have one sub with a single voic coil then it wouldn't matter, can only hook that up one way! Just my $.02 Good luck
Personally, Stereo's are nice... I like Horsepower!! I couldn't have smoked a 02' LS1 Camaro SS by a carlength in the 1/4 with bigger amps!!!
80elcamino 05-21-2004, 09:33 AM Well I've double checked all the connections and they are set-up correctly. I'm probably turning it up too loud anyway, I've started to get complaints from the neighbors. hehe.
I also come from the same school of thought on the hp issue. I love smoking these mustangs and camaro/firebirds on the streets....um...I mean the strip.
You know what I mean...
Alchemist 05-22-2004, 10:46 AM Not sure if i'm impressed or not. Have you had it on an MSQ meter? If so, what was the score? Any monkey with a few bucks and a Crutchfield catalog can rattle glass...but without sound quality i'm DEFINITELY not "impressed". http://www.emotipad.com/newemoticons/Dunno.gif
elrockss 05-22-2004, 06:02 PM D-money,
Just be careful with the making the whole bed a box concept. The Solobarics are designed for small enclosures with and higher compliance than other standard woofers. Even with SB 15s a cube per is more than enough to make em change your hair do, with under a grand worth of RMS power, wired properly.
For the sake of security, I'd say keep your audio in the cab, especially if it's a daily driver..A dedicated show vehicle that sits in a garage or trailer that's secured-cool, if not, that hard tonneau cover aint gonna keep a jonezin crackhead out of your bed.
I'm not trying to get in your business at all, or tell you how to set up or grow your system, I just hate to see a fellow Elky owner have to deal with the loss and or damage to their prize posession. Showin out and off is cool, but not at the cost of your gear or vehicle.
I have worked in the Pro Audio Industry for over twentyyears as a high end specialist- I have seen the worst of it, and so the best. A loss is bad news, no matter how you look at it. I'd say you got a few dollars invested right? In this day and age you can't afford to chance it, that is unless you got some money or equipment you just WANT to give away!!
Do your thing man, and do it so all will hear and remember you where there, but above all just do it right!
Post some pics so we can see how you are poppin and shakin the glass!

ONELOWELCAMINO 06-18-2004, 04:47 PM S ounds great D, i did the same thing you are doing now. I put a hard shell toneau on and cut out the top of the smugglers box, then cut out right below the toneau under the back window. I ve got 2 solobaric 12's and man it freakin kicks. I've also got all of my airbag (tank-valves-compressor-ext.) back there. I am really happy with the setup, not to mention the added storage. A couple of subs and an amp isnt going to slow your car down drasticly, i mean sure it will make a little difference but everybody here acts like you cant do both things at once. Its not like your loading your elk up with bricks and then heading to the strip. Anyway next time a add 200 pounds ill throw a 100 shot of nos in the back to make everybody happy- LATER, KRIS
D-money 06-21-2004, 06:45 PM yeah i dont if i will stick to the plan of building i bed box or not
and as for everyone who thinks my cars slow, 13.8 in the quater mile isnt slow to me but whatever mybe i dont know much then
just because i'm 17 and have an expensive system dont mean i have a crappy engine i have dump a few pay checks into it trust me
sorry if i sound like a jerk but all these guys are probably just pissed cause we can afford both a badass system and a fast car.
80elcamino 06-21-2004, 07:35 PM No were just saying that instead of 2 subwoofers you could cut 2 seconds off your 1/4 time.
Just kidding, I won't flame you any more.
John D 07-07-2004, 10:20 PM Challenge to all comers? I want to see a printout of your RTA results, sampled @ 100dB using Pink noise, then a print of your maximum SPL (sustained for 15 seconds). Then we'll talk.
Loud isn't everything - anyone can be LOUD. Musicality, Staging, and Imaging are where you separate the men from the boys. I'll agree with "Alchemist"! :?
El Camaro 12-16-2004, 07:25 PM hey Elcaminoss31316 is that x1 sportster a buell x1? just wondering, i'm a buell guy myself...
