Hey guys, what is the purpose of spindles? and if i intend to lower the front of my elky (85), would i need lowering spindles AND lowering springs? If not both, which one would be preferred? Also, i know this is the wrong forum for exhaust, but DOES a new exhaust increase gas mileage as well as performance? I have been told both ways... so i am a bit confused on that hehe.
Thanks fellas! and yes i am slowly but surely learning the ways of the camino haha (i better pick up fast! im a mechanical engineer student, maybe i could do a school (funded  ) project on the elky! LOL)

Spindles hold the front wheels on same as an axle except they can turn individualy. Lowering your front end with different spindles is a better way to go, I believe, then you don't lose suspension travel like you do with lower springs. You can use one or the other. If you would try to use both, you might get so low that you would have tire/wheel clearance problems. Cars are really hard to drive with the front bumper dragging on the ground :? . As for exhaust, the better an engine can breathe the better it will run, hence better fuel mileage and performance, but keep in mind any enviromental restrictions in your area and possible noise concerns.

I've had 1 1/2" lowering springs for some time now and never had the suspension bottom out, there is plenty of spring travel on 5th Gens. The spring manufacturers make the spring rate higher when they shorten the spring. Springs are quicker and cheaper and work well. I don't think there is a significant advantage to lowering spindles unless you want to go real low and use them in combination with a spring. In any case either will work well.

If you only want to lower your elk an 1" to an 1 1/2' i would say go with the springs, but if you want to go lower i would use lowering spindles for a 2" inch drop and lowering spindles and lowering springs for more than a 2" drop. I you wanna go real low the look at getting an air ride suspension package for g-bodies of course they're pretty pricey, little over a a grand for the front and rear and even then you still have to buy a compressor.
