So most the interior is stripped on the 69.. alot of surface rust on roof, few spots on door behind door panel, floor needs some scraping too.

So what's the best way to get rid of all this surface rust, and the rougher area on the doors? Got a few wire brushes, a wire wheel attachment for the drill. My air compressor is still in FL so no air tools here :( Read about a few that you spread on with brush but wasn't sure on how effective they are.

Any input would be appreciated so I can get started on rd 2.. fiberglassin' .. :nanawrench:

What are you fiberglassing?? If you are going to fiberglass of the rust spots, please don't. I had to cut out about 16" of fiberglassed repair patch. It sucked cause the original spot was about 6"

I would go to Harbour Frieghts and pick up a High Spead Dremeal tool, and a nice sander. I used a round 6" sander with 60 grit sand papper, and finished with 120 grit. If you are looking to clean up the rust spots that you may get back, pick up some Por 15, that is very good for killing rust. Por 15 costs, so maybe you can pick up some rattle can primer to keep some of that rust from coming back.

Maybe look at some Elemental Design, it is a Spray on Sound deadner.

I was just looking to remove the surface rust on the inside of door (what the door panel rests against). Have some Dynamat extreme being shipped so want to make the sure the surface it's sticking too is solid and clean.

The fiberglassing I was referring too will be for the kick panels and rear subwoofer enlcosure/amp rack. Have some Diamond Audio mids/tweets waiting to go in the kick panels. Would love to try some HLCD's with all the space under the dash, maybe later.

Only one product I use and have used on 4 el CAmino's in big way and smal way as a rust repair and preventor POR15. Has real good coverage can be brushed with great ease, if a self leveling paint do yourself a favor and go to there site and read up on it. Prep with wire wheel as directed and maybe a little more, if you have pin holes and want to seal them and strengthen the florr use 1 1/2 OZ. fiberglass mat and the POR15 is your wet coat in place of resin and it works super good there is a 2 part putty for other repairs if needed and it can be shaped and sanded very good. NOt cheap but the best or equal to any things else on the market. There are some helpful tricks if you use it give me a PM and I will give you what I have learned.
I personal have had very good luck with this product as long as you follow and do the prep correctly and degrease and etch and apply two coats as described. Have my ElCamino frame, suspension, rear end done in it for over 10 years and many other parts in Metal Mask and complete engine in POR 15 Engine enamel and primer with great results and still just wipe off with a towel and simple green or general cleaner. Engine cleans real well with glass cleaner and is like new after 5 years now.

Thanks for replies BigD and Skiny.. Guess I'll check out the POR15, seems to be pretty popular. The floor is solid, it's just the one passenger side door that has some surface rust I need to to prep before covering with the Dynamat.

Remind me to put some sunglasses on before you show me that great looking engine compartment there SkinyD.. could blind somebody with all those chrome goodies :)
