I bought an 84 El Camino and the dash says Super Sport. How do i verify this?

Find the build sheet. Look for the Z15 SS decor. Doug

How do I do that?

It could be on top of the gas tank, could be under the carpet, could be in the seat between the frame and foam. I found mine in the space behind smugglers box but the mice found it first.

No luck in the glove box , no luck under the seat...Have no idea where the tech sheet could be

on that year ss was just an apperance option like bucket seats consel with floor shifter, ss markings on outside body but still the same 305 we all seem to love:poke:

Do you have the round gauges and a factory tach?

If you get the original invoice for it you will know then. They used to be free but now there $50.

If the first # of your VIN is a 1(US made)you can do as above.If it is a 3(Mexico made)you're in the same boat as me SOL.But I think all 84's were made in US.Let me know where you find your build sheet if you find it.good luck.

I've found build sheets behind the door panels, and stuck in the springs under the seat. My '74 Malibu had 3 of them in it. Maybe it depends on the folks on the production line ?

Kerno-I have the round gauges...no factory tach

Chris- Its starts with a 1 so I guess it is Us Made...I actually sold the seats because I had the 60/40 from my 87 and the original seats were kinda broken so maybe my tech sheet is in there somewhere..That sux. I guess I have to go to the dealer to find out. It doesnt have anything different like bucket seats or a bigger motor it just says Super Sport on the dash.

Since yours is US made you can call Allied-Vaughn & get your invoice if you want to spend $50.I wish I could,beats tryin' to tear your car up lookin' fer that elousive build sheet.But don't be lookin' fer no hipo engine they're all that ever faithfull lo po 305 that we're all stuck with.But it would be nice to know if you have a genuine SUPER SPORT even if it was just decals & gauge pac.Let us know how you make out.
