Well my friend Eddie is now in the US and has looked at several late Elkies for me and he has seen one that he calls a "burnt orange" color that he liked. Does this "colour" or similar belong? or is it a very thorough respray?

One thing he has noticed is that price/condition is quite variable.
That is, a high price does not mean a better vehicle, but may be because of aftermarket items such as stereo.
A 3500 dollar ute was in better condition than a 6000 dollar job. just less "add-ons".
Getting away from the original Question, though... Colours on late Elkies.

Yep I did a search befor I posted, but nothing of help came up.

My books do not list "Burnt Orange" as an available color on '85-'87 Elkys. Burnt orange is a metallic color, resembling bronze or copper, with a hint of orange, depending on shade or hue. I don't remember any other cars but the late '60s, early '70s Dodge and Plymouth offered in this color from the factory but I could be wrong. Have your friend send you a E-mail with a photo of the car, if possible and see what you think. This color is very pretty in my opinion, if tastefully done. I think if it's a good paint job, you can't lose. Me being as lazy as I am, I wouldn't spend the time and effort to find a car with its original paint still on it but that's just my 2 cents. Good luck finding a car, though, I hope you come across a suitable candidate soon.

Thanks for that, Iceman
I should add that Eddie first thought it was a respray, but after looking under the bonnet, oops hood!, inside doors etc etc, he reckoned it was original

Was the color Camel? That's similar to a copper-burnt orange color. I've done a bit of touch up on mine and that's what color I used.

Also I checked my data plate and it was part of the 2-tone scheme my truck originally was, I confirmed while stipping the paint that the color I repainted the truck was near identical to what it was originally (bottom was brown when I got it).

See Ya,
