It sounds like you have a broken piston ring or a hole burned in a piston. Either one is real bad news

If you have a baffled breather on one valve cover the other side should have the PVC with a connection to a PVC port on the carb base. When you pull the hose off of the fitting at the base of the carb is there a lot of oil? A little oil esp. on an older engine is nothing to worry about; a lot of oil could mean broken/worn piston/rings and/or valve stem seals/guides. Take a leakdown and/or compression check for a diagnosis.

Got a lot of miles on that engine? Might be time for a rebuild.

well got the heads pulled off and 3 cylinders loaded with oil, solution junk the motor and start fresh. found a 80k 350 out of a 79 van ,put all new bearings ,cam ,timing chain , seals and carb. had it out allready and runs great just have to re-adjust rockers this weekend and i'm on the road again only took two weeks so i'm a happy camper
