When deciding on what color to paint an el camino (5th gen) is there any car or truck that can be compared to the el camino? Basicly im looking for a vehicle that can be placed in this sentance: If a __________ looks good in that color then the el camino will probably look good.
You know that if one car looks good one color, then another car in that same color may look horible. Im sure if i like a Malibu in a certain color then at least the front half of my 5th gen will look good, but what about the bed? I like elky's painted silver or pearl white, but im not sure if it would look good in some of the colors i would like. I was thinking about a dark blue w/ pearl and a very small shade of dark purple with ghost flames. Silver pearl with light ghost flames would look good to but my favorite color is blue. Im talkin about the ghost flames that even when you can see them they are barely there but if you move over a foot...they're gone. Some guys ghost flames just look a lighter flame job rather than ghost flames.
I have looked through the entire 5th gen gallery with no luck. Anybody have a link to tons of 5th gens in different colors?

The galleries here are probably the most extensive that you will find.

That is some of the best photo editing i have ever seen. Honestly. How did you change the color o fthe car and still make it look like it was that color before the picture? I am drawing a few paint schemes i think may look good, you think when im done i can send them to you and have you paint the el camino in those pictures like the ones in my drawing so i xan see what it would really look like? You dont know how much i would appreciate it.

Hi, I'm glad you liked the various manipulated photos, thanks for the compliments. I outlined the technique I used to create them in the text at the top of the link in my original post, but it would take far too much time to really detail what I did; but with the use of any good photomanipulation program and a bit of practice it should be possible to repeat what I have done. Because I saved various versions with and without masks along the way it is now a simple task to just change the color, however, doing a complex pattern would take much more time. A friend of mine runs a company called Nitemareperformance (www.nitemareperformance.com) and I have done various photo work for him before (I'm just an amateur) he was working on a customers El Camino which was getting the works new engine, trans, rear end gears and cosmetic work and I was asked if I wanted that photomanipulation job. Since the work was now done and payed for and it turn out well, I thought I 'd share it with a few El Camino fans and photographic people via my web page. However if you want some custom work I would do a few simple color changes for you for free but if you want very complex patterns done I'd have to charge you as it takes quite a bit of time to do. I have an e-mail address listed on my web page (max file size to send to that address would be 1MB if you need more let me know as I have other addresses with more capacity). Phil
PS You may not have noticed but the pictures are available in several sizes on my web page, the original size will give you the most detail. This size is actually shrunk quite a bit from the true original but is still better than the other sizes.

WOW! What a great service you provided for that guy. Welcome to our website, by the way. You are obviously very talented and intelligent,,,,, and patient. lol Is there any way that us normal people can get a program like that, without spending $300? I'm a week away from painting my Elky, and CAN'T MAKE UP MY MIND ABOUT THE COLOR!!! LOL

The program I used Corelphotopaint 8.0 is quite old now they are up to 11 or 12 now, and I have seen it bundled with scanners and for sale for under $80, it isn't the most intuitive software to use but since I spent the time to learn it I sort of stick with it. Most professionals seem to prefer Adobe Photoshop but all those programs take a bit of practice to learn the tools and get good at it. I think even the $29.99 type photomanipulation software can produce results like that if you get proficient with it. Good luck with the paint job hope the photos I posted help you decide. The guy I did the manipulation for went for the maroon. Since he's getting an $1800 dollar paint job he thought the $100 bucks to see his car (he got high resolution printss of them all plus originals) in the different colors he thought he'd wanted with the different hood was a good deal. It was the first time I'd done that exact type of photo job.

Thanx for the info. I'll see if I can find it. There are SO many colors to choose from, but that's a good thing. I THINK I have it narrowed down to either red or silver.
