Hello,
I might be getting an LT1 engine in a swap and would like to know what else I would need in order to get it to work on my elkie. I've been reading the posts and it seems that I would need the ECU and the wiring harness at a minumum. One question I have is would trhe erngine bolt up to my 200r4 tranny or would I need to replace that as well? If I did have to replace woudl I lose the current shift lever and have to replace it with a floor mount? I would really like to keep the 200r4 if possible as I just had it rebuilt and hopped up to handle the engine I was going to put in the elkie before this deal came along. Any info would be a BIG help on this one. Thanks

Yep need the wiring harness and the ECM. I can't tell you if the 200R will bolt up but there would be a few problems. The ECM likes to know what gear the transmission is in. Also the computer uses a connector on the transmission to know the cars speed. You're not going to have these connections.

Don't know if you can use your column shifter or not. I don't know anyone that has.

You might need to upgrade your fuel system also. If your current motor is fuel injected then you're ready, otherwise you would need a fuel return, an electric fuel pump and a new tank sender. Also might want to think about a new tank with the baffles in it.

To use the 200r4, you will need a four pole signal generator attached to the speedo cable, the original 2 pole VSS on the elky will not work with the LT1 PCM. The tranny will bolt up, but you will also have to have a manual trans program in the PCM since it will be expecting to controll a 4L60E trans.

Thanks for the info, it was a big help in determining which way to go with this build.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the archives... I am currently doing a 1990 tpi swap into my 84 el camino ss. Can someone provide more info on making a 4-pulse vss work in a 2-pulse vss vehicle?

You will need a a 4 pole signal generator available here:
