I have an 86 El Camino with the stock 14X6 rally wheels. I have been trying to decide weather to go with a 215/70 R14 or a 225/70 R14. The original tire size 205/75 R14 figures at 26.10 inches tall the 215/70 R14 is 25.84 inches tall and the 225/70 R14 is 26.38 inches tall.
Either has been recommended what I am wondering is does one look better over the other or does anyone know of any rub problems with either size. Have not found any around to actually look at with these tire sizes. What do you all out in the El Camino world suggest or recommend?

Thanks,
Eddie

I would go with the P225/70R14. Also, you might look at a P235/60R14 or P245/60R14. I've seen these, and they look good.

I'm running 14" X 7" American Racing wheels on my '79, and there's one big problem with BFGoodrich Radial TA's- THEY'RE NOT CURRENTLY (7/04)AVAILABLE!

I want the popular P235/60R14, and they won't be available till September! Not in any warehouses, not in the pipeline. etc. This sucks, but I want Radial TA's.

The widest tire would protcet the trim rings the most and I don't think they would all look too different. I usually see 225 wide tires on 7" wide rims though.

Sandman I had no problem at all when I got mine. I purchased mine over the 4 of July weekend.

I forgot the originals were 6" wide(I should know, I'm selling mine right now), but still go with the tallest tire. It fills out the wheel well and makes your car have an UNnoticably faster topend!
