: New rules for old town!!!!!

Just got back from Old Town and they have AGAIN changed the rules because of all the complaints. They are now allowing 1964 and NEWER cars on Friday night BUT ONLY AMERICAN MUSCLE CARS!!! They have a list (Camaros, Chevelles, Mustangs, etc.) and when I asked about my Choo Choo they said they don't currently have El Caminos on the list, but they will consider them if they show up. I can't go tonight but if anyone wants to check, call 407 396.4888 and ask. These rules just changed this past week so they don't have anything set in stone yet.:nanawrench:

I guess there is power in numbers complaining because this past Saturday the attendance was, once again, terrible......

I look up the rules on thier site yesterday and it did say Friday Muscle Car Cruise 1964 to 1979. These People that have obtain old town need to notify there accountant of the closing of thier business soon as they are going to shut down the hole thing with the thought pattern they have. Friday night solution to tone down the tunners and mustangs and such is easy and will keep there Friday night alive just simply make it 25 years or older american made only and you know have it right. Leave Saturday as it is. Those that go to Friday wait until there are some replays and than email those in charge, maybe thay can read and see the common sense to this. My Two cents

You should have gone! I managed to squeeze myself in tonight after a heated debate with the head guy there after i exclaimed stating they still had the old rules posted on their website, they guy said "I'll let you in for only tonight" Only 20 cars were there as far as tonight.

Even the regulars who go are upset with the new rules saying that its going to hurt old town even more. They even said they get more cars come in on wednesday night then on friday night. I have also found out that it is old town that are charging people to park in the grass field adjacent to them.

It upsets me that the old town owners are constantly changing the rules, apparent a week or so ago they didn't allow CORVETTES in!! A group of them showed up saying how pissed they were and they change the rules to let them in. So if they can do it...We can do it! Strength in numbers!

Here's the list of cars they gave me that they are allowing in now...

ChinChan,

Thanks for the update! I was going to go tonight and bring my other car, '65 F**d, but I am really upset with the way they are treating all of us. I started going there in the early '80s with a car club from South Florida and they used to treat us really great but what they are doing now really bites. May be time for us to arraing a meeting with the owners and tell them some of the things we would like to see. I don't have a problem patronizing the shops, but there really has to be a reason for us to go, not just be a draw for all of the tourist. Just my $ .02.

We all need to remind them in the remarks (on their facebook page) that they had an El Camino on their front entrance for years...so if it was good enough for their display, it should be good enough for us to display and show.

I can see 3 possible outcomes from this campaign, at least from the Monte Carlo side.

1. They ignore everything and do what they want.
2. They realize they made a mistake and amend the rules.
3. We have pissed them off so bad they will never let another Monte Carlo within a mile of their place.

I am leaning towards #3 . LOL

The silver Camino that was on display out front is now sitting in the parking lot with a sign saying it will be sold to the highest bidder in a silent auction. The talk was they were asking around $4000.00. Car is really beat, tho.... A real shame.....

We are thrilled to have so many passionate car fans out there that are interested in coming out to Old Town!! We have decided to add "SHOW QUALITY" Monte Carlos to the list. See you Friday!! We appreciate the feedback & know that even if we don't respond to each and every comment, we are LISTENING & taking all feedback into account. If you have specific questions about your make/model of car please call 407-396-4888.

Well if they don't wake up and come around completely....There is still the option of putting something together down the street at Ker's Winghouse. They are open to it as a part of their competition with Hooters. With the Caminos and Montes together...Maybe adding a Chevelle group to round it out...We could make Old Town really take notice of something bigger going on down the street. Maybe some time in November, like when the MC club did Old Town last year?

Just a thought...

Don't you Monte guys take this wrong I am sure glad they listen to something, but a 64 to 68 to 72 BB El Camino is more a muscle car than a Monte is IMO but no response to the EL Camino's, these guys are just plain STUPID. I said I was done with Old Town well there 3 weeks 3 email and no response to anyone has sealed it for me. The good thing about this is they don't have to worry about someone spreading bad press and bad mouthing them as they have created their owne so big and broad that they are done.

Lenny, if you read this forget Old Town we do not need them and the only reason to go has been erased "lots of car & lots of people".

No offense taken Jay, i will agree with you on your points. I have and still am pushing for the El Camino to be included also.
I just sent them an E-Mail thanking them, apologizing for some of the rude comments and asking for the El Camino to also be included. Explained although some may consider them a truck they really are more like sisters to cars like the Chevelle & Monte Carlo as they share many things. I explained that the NECOA has had successful meets there and you guys have some beautiful "Show Quality" rides.
I also asked if they were going to allow car clubs to participate on Saturdays like they used to even if the majority does not fall into age group.

I believe they got all their information from Wikipedia and the El Camino is listed as a truck on there.

Will Old-Town ever be the same? No! But maybe they will listen a little more in the future.

I'm not in your area but it sure sounds like you're having to deal with a bunch of JERKS !! Can you start another meet somewhere else ? Thats what happened at a NC town when the rest. owner got a case of BIG HEAD and everyone left and started their meet somewhere else. The BIG HEAD has since begged them to come back, won't happen !!

This place we call OLD TOWN has had a very good car count of real car guys and gals for a lot of years with only a few rocks in the road and that has only been in the last 3 to 4 years, when a few of the local clubs guys got into a postiion to favor the members with assigned parking when it was always get there early and take what is open when you pull up, come late take your fate. Then they treatened to tow cars that parked where the signes were on Saturday, some nights assigned names did not come and these prime places were sometimes empty. The new owners have either got volunteers in the show head position or they just plain put simpletons in the positions. This CRUISE IN has always drawn from a large radis area and can't do the local favor thing of a local car show night even than parking is alwasy a none issue.

But when you add what has been going on for months now with many rule changes that were made. The guys that should be crazy is the new late models being just told to go away. Now I only defend them in the sense of, if they would behave themselves than I think they should be there if that is the way the Friday night has always been or at least just make it 1974 to 1987 and forget the other BS. To may knowledge there has never been any high calibur or a car count show that has servied on "MUSCLE CARS" only that adheired to the correct rules and make it.

This thread needs to go to sleep there going to do what they want, if they don't adjust in a week forget them. I am out unless we restore the NECOA meet with all years in.

folks - really think we're all giving this too much thought and prose. let's look at it

1) old towne is basically pretty lame to begin with - there are a few grade 'b' tourist shops and rides and a couple of middling restaurants. once some cars are there and you take a lap or two around it's pretty much done 'till you leave

2) over the years i've been to 9 or 10 old towne events and 4 or 5 old towne el camino events - we probably never got more than 6 or 8 cars to go anyway - so combined with 1 above it's not like it was a real destination.

3) if we found another venue, like a hooters or winghouse - would it be any better or worse.

4) if we had a central spot where us, the montes and chevelles (all years) could meet up say 2 or 3 times a year and have good participation, i would go - in the end it isn't the where, for me it's the brotherhood and bs'ing and seeing and shakin' the hands of folks you don't see everyday.

...even if one of 'em is 464elky and he just wants to rattle my cage!

My Camino isn't "show quality", but I used to feel welcome at Old Town anyway. Funny, I have an all out "show car" that I won'teven bring there on Sat. night anymore. I would be interested in going to Ker's... They have a nice big parking area. well lit and easy to get in and out of, the food is good and the beer is cold. Let's just start meeting there and see what happens. Even if it is a weeknight, the word would get out real quick and I thing the response would be good, everyone is always looking for a good cruise!!!

I think I agree with Lenny on this one. I only live about 20 to 30 minutes drive from Old Town (depending on how heavy the tourist flow is that day)and with all that' being said I just don't deem it worth it to go down there or go through the hassle of trying to get them to please us. The beer is too expensive there, anyways

I am glad to see this discussion continuing and I feel confident if a lot of us continue to press Old Town , things will change for the better and perhaps return to what made it so popular for so many years . There are things about Old Town that are not perfect but I think that what makes it such a good place to go , is that collectively it has a lot for everyone . We could do the cruise on Fri. night , display " on the bricks " , all day Sat. and we were allowed to do the cruise Sat. night . Personally for me , it is a round trip of about 720 miles with hotel , food , gas etc. expenses and some of you come from Palm Beach , Hialeah etc . so to spend three or four days it needs to be more than one night standing around in a parking lot . Done that before . While prices are not the cheapest , there are bars , restaurants , eclectic shops , bands , dancing , amusement rides , all in one location that is cut off from outside vehicular traffic where you can safely wonder around . Lots of reasonably priced hotels with security in close proximity to Old Town , good , clean restaurants in walking distance in a safe area of town . Disney World , Universal Studios etc. a reasonable ride away . The new owners , in an effort to solve some of it`s problems have changed it enough that they are " throwing out the baby with the bathwater " , and ruining it . If they do not do something right it will be called " Ghost Town " , instead of Old Town . That is exactly what I plan on writing to their board of directors . I have previously been in contact with them and happy to see others taking up the cause . Thanks to Choo Choo Charlie Charlie for this forum and MC87SS for all your efforts . Hope all of you will take a few minutes to contact Old Town and express your view . Remind them we want to come there , cause no problems and spend our money . If something is not done soon to allow us to participate we will eventually find another venue . Let`s not give up too soon . They have a problem and know it and numerous people reminding them might change their minds .

Lenny, I couldn't agree with you more!!!! Well said!!!! I have been involved with cars for over 45 years (yeah, I'm old) and still can't think of a place with all Old Town has to offer for free. I live 5 miles from there and everyone that comes to visit me wants to stop by there. Let's just all try to get them to welcome all of us car guys with our old iron and try to get the "fun" back in to cruising. I will stay in touch with them as a local representative and see if I can bring a little understanding to them as far as our vehicles. If you see a silver 87 SS that would be Tony & Sandra.

If any of you in the whole 'Mouse House' area would like to have a little NECOA meet there like once a month...At the 'Wing House', or anywhere ... I'd like to take part and maybe we can keep the discussion going for creating a larger annual event to include the Elkys, Montes, and Chevelles. I know there have been several members in the area inquiring about meets in the past. Lets get something started and see where it grows! Location can be the same place each month or move around. We don't need Old Town....But if we make a large group of this, they will need us!

Thanks, Ken. I went down there during the week and they now have "Comment Cards" that they will give you to make suggestions. I filled one out letting them know about our crucks. I got to talk to one of the workers, Carol, I believe, and she said they wanted early American Muscle cars and the people in charge said that was any type of hi Po car, including anything that said "SS" on it. Kinda vauge but it was a start. I told her mine was an "SS" and she said they were discussing Caminos since a few of us had asked. I didn't get to go Friday nite, too much rain, but if you guys want to get together locally, count me in. I will try anain this friday, weather permitting.

It should be clean, no rust, no primer spots, all one color. Almost like off a showroom floor. No under construction. Interior should be finished.
Again, nothing under construction.

greetings. as for old town, well,...

they are the last ones to talk about show quality...
they still let zimmers in on sat...enough said. several others with spraypainted primer...and a couple fresh from the junkyard with stupid crap jugs and such screwed on...impressive.
they now have gotten rid of all the prop vehicles on property, the beaten up camino still sitting by the maintanence area. and theres a large hole in the wall outside block 1, as of last wednesday. last i hear, several "new" cars are allowed back in fridays, but caminos, thunderbirds, etc, of antique/classic years are not. go figure...
also the local news either sat or sun had a brief story on old town stating they are trying to put several new rides in and want to make more of a fun spot type place. coincidentally, the only place for more rides is... where the cruisers park.
put it together...they eliminate and alienate most all old cruisers, charge for parking, and are putting in more rides...
its time for a new set of cruises and cruis-ins, or at least we should create our own unofficial gatherings for awhile. just not old town.

i'll be stopping by in the next week if possible. while there i'll check up again as well.
just saying "up to present" rings of the bad old days in my opinion. that means sharing our elks with the new crap car clubs again. they were nothing but trouble, and the new car people are the reason for so many of us dropping out of it there. they have caused several fights, a few assaults, vandalism to older cars, (mine was one of them), and old town refused to take any responsibility for this stuff. all they care about is their hopful bottom line. im not trashing new vehicles at all. they are for driving every day. but the cruises should always be for antique, classic, rare and collectible pieces of history, and the newer ones should not be allowed to mix in with ours at the cruise. make a separate day for them and the thugs can come and have their own day.
what we should do is take notice and pictures along with any info available on all possible new places to have meets. even if its not an "official" cruise or cruis-in, just have some locations where guys can just have a come-and-go day to hang out, trade stories, and relax.
sorry i rambled on and on and on...
til next time take care!!!

Maybe everyone write to Brothers Entertainment Mgt.Group and lay it out what you think it needs to be at Old Town. Let them know what you think now, while they are still in the buying process. I emailed them earlier and told them that my wife and I no longer came to Old Town after my 87 El Camino wasn't allowed to show. But would come back if and when the rules change.

After reading what Chin Chan , 87Elky and Doug said , I looked on their site at www.old-town.com and low and behold the Friday night cruises have gone back to allowing 1964 to present years American cars !! Does this mean no imports that they used to allow ? It`s the weekend and I could not get anyone there on the phone but the recording said the same thing on the years allowed . I did not see where we could contact them by email so 1987Elky if you could put up their email address for us that would help . Their phone # is 407-396-4888 . I will try to contact them also next week . In the meantime , if others would contact them , please let us know what you find out . Doug mentioned previous serious problems that Old Town was having and it will be interesting to see if the new owners are taking back control of their event . Keep us posted as this has been a good venue for us ; especially , if we can again display " on the bricks " !! I`m cautiously optimistic :smileyb:

For BEMG--ejbrothersent@gmail.com--ph.609-729-2400

ChinChan thats good news! It may still not hurt to send them (polite) messages stating your thoughts on El Caminos. Now is the time to keep the hammer down.

emails sent re, El Camino's on Main Street for a Sat with all years staying for night cruise as in the past years.
Also a request to fix Friday and make it almost as they have done this week, with one with change 1964 to 1987 ie 25 years and older using 2012 as a start year. either way on Friday as now I can bring the 69 in if we do a Sat show on main street "great".

Well...Seems like we're back to square one on this!! I guess that GMC that came last friday was turned away and i almost was too...Its not the employees that want to turn cars away...its a certain individual name Dave that being so stringent on the "muscle car" factor and kicking up a storm. Had a good...I'd say disagreement on what actually a muscle car is. After a good 5 minutes of going back and forth he reluctantly let me in...

I mean c'mon...i saw a damn PACER in there, now is that a muscle car?

I asked why i and another elk was allowed in last week and not this week his excuse was "Oh i wasn't there to stop you in time" umm...ok? :dontknow:

This is a message i sent to Dave a couple weeks ago.

Dave,
The grapevine says a couple El Camino's were in attendance Friday night.
Does that mean i can invite them to join us for our gathering Friday Sept, 2nd?

He just answered me tonight.
No the Elcamino's that were there were registered before 7-15-11, under the old rules, cars from 1979 and older.

I don't know whats up with them.
Sorry guys, i will keep trying.

Hey, tried to bring the Choo Choo friday night. Got turned away AGAIN!!! Had a nice "discussion" with the guys at the entrance..... I was told " The show is open to American Muscle CARS... the Camino is a TRUCK, so.....NO TRUCKS!.. I saw the Pacer that was there and thought the same thing. gimme a break, As I was talking, 2 late model Mustangs rolled in....... When I walked thru the lot, after I parked real close, cause the regular parking area was empty, ( it was around 7:30) there was a whole bunch of late models and only a few people walking around. Let me put it this way, there were only 2 ladies doing the line dancing in front of the band, at 8PM... :smileyb:

I found one of the other guys in charge and he said the new "crowd" spends more money than the "old" crowd. The way I see it, WE brought the SPECTATORS in to see OUR cars and THEY were the ones that spent the money!!! Not too many people were walking around looking at all the late models as most of them had their hood closed. And when I saw the blue Pacer parked near the band I thought the same thing....... I have a modified AMERICAN MADE MUSCLE VEHICLE that was limited to 851 where it was MODIFIED by an AMERICAN COMPANY in CHATTANOOGA ,TENN. and yet, all these NEW so called Muscle cars are just cookie cutter, look alikes that are mass produced with a boat load of FORIEGN parts. Sorry guys, but I have been Drag Racing, Hot Rodding and Street Rodding since 1965.........Got my first of 7 Caminos in 1970 and I have Never even OWNED a foriegn car, so if I sound a little cynical..........:dontknow:

Oh and by the way Ken, I am STILL gonna bring it there this coming Friday so they will either let me park WITH you, or it will be in the parking lot......either way...... Strength in numbers!!!!!

Just got off the phone with the new owners , E J Brothers of Old Town concerning the Friday cruises ( 407-390-0906 ) . . Had a polite conversation with Angie and was told that the car must have been classified by the manufacturer as a muscle car and the El Camino and Montes are not classified as such . I said that a Pacer has been sighted there and she said that if an individual car had attended as of the new year and before they changed the rules , they would be grandfathered in on an individual basis . When asked if vehicles that have been updated to muscle car status with engines , trans etc would that be acceptable , I was told no . I told her that the Caminos and Monte Carlos have attended numerous times including displaying " on the bricks " and that we only wanted to cruise , cause no problems and spend our money there , I was told that sorry but that we still would not be allowed in with our rides . Well , I hope those of you that can , would keep asking as it cost us nothing to ask but have as others found that the door has been shut in our faces . I mentioned that we were disappointed that we will have to find another venue where we can spend our time and money . Thanks to all of you that have made attempts to get us in . Perhaps we will be able to find a comparable place . As we look around , keep in mind that a place that has more to offer than just a parking lot would be best . Many of the members that have attended have driven a long way from both coasts of Florida and spent $ for gas , meals and motels to attend . This is part of the reason that shows like the Nat`l. Muscle Cars Assoc. , Beach Blast , Silver Springs , Super Chevy etc. are so much fun and worth spending money to get there . Hey , onward through the fog !

Lenny, Just called and also talked to Angie. Talked for about 10 minutes about bringing in the elkies and basically she said, "it ain't gonna happen"...... She gave me Dave, the cruise directors E-mail, dave@myoldtownusa.com (dave@myoldtownusa.com) and I am going to write to him now. I think they are doing the wrong thing and I will let him know how I and others feel. Any one up for meeting at Ker's Winghouse on 192 this Friday night???? They got cold beer and hot wings!!!:poke:

Yes Ed bring it! Well I guess I saw it here anyway.

I'm about done with these Old Town clowns myself. Maybe we should just send them a video of us all ceremoniously burning our cruise credentials.

I am a little confused with all of this Ol' Town stuff. I have been there to two of our gatherings and all though there were a good quantity of nice cars to look at and yes it is a nice venue I spent most of the day hanging and bench racing with my El Camino buddys. The same thing I do at most of the shows no matter where it is held.
SO MOVE ON!!!! If it was up to me I would close this thread now.
