I have been looking for a supercharger for my elky. I was looking at the Vortec supercharger and thinking about getting. i am getting rid of my downhill because of an injury that accured during one of my races, so that i can afford it. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions about supercharging my vehicle or any superchargers that i might be able to run in my elky.
Thanks

I assume you are talking about a supercharger for a 70 Elky...?

I have been interested in that as well. My 72 is an original 454 SS car, but it has a 350 currently. I have been debating about replacing the 454 versus perhaps adding one of the small Holley/Weiand Powerchargers. This will fit my functioning Cowl Induction hood, and so I can keep the stock look.

While I know 'there is no replacement for displacement'.... there are not a lot of superchargers on Elky's at shows (at least not under-hood models) and I think that would be a nice trick touch for showing, plus I want to increase my towing capacity and I understand chargers can help with that.

But I too would like to hear more from others with their suggestions or experiences.

Stick with the centrifical charger and I'd stay away from Vortex-lots of bracket mods to make it work. Always have good success with Paxton or ATI. If your gonna step-up and play with the big dogs might as well gear it up a little and run an intercooler. A mild small block with 7 psi and an intercooler should get you around 500 at the rear-wheels, enough to scare the crap out of most big blocks. :D

I want an under the hood charger because it is gonna be my every day car. Vortec makes one for a v-8 small block and it comes with all the stuff you need to make it work.

I helped pull one of two 588 B/B out of a 38' Formula today with a pro-charger on it. Blow through carb design. Guy says it works great-very happy with the results. Over 100+MPH, anybody who knows about big boats will tell you this is haulin' a$$. Very nice set-up, He may may have 2 complete set-ups for sale(smaller blowers). I'll find out how much and what size.

I was interested in a ProCharger until I read on their web site that they recommend running under 9.5 compression. I had just bought a motor and later learned of its low 9.5 compression and thought, no problem, I'll force inject it. Live and learn...I'm at 9.5 in extremely hot weather and did not want to chance it.

If you have a 350 small block I can recomend a Weiand. I haven't looked at others, but I bought mine used at a swap meet and it was really easy to put on except for a few odd sized bolts I had to search for. It's a roots type and it almost clears my 2" cowl hood.(can't fit any type of air cleaner yet)I've had no problems with the Weiand so that's what I recomend if you think you can keep it under your hood.
