Hey! Im new to this site and I think its great! I have recently run across a 65 El Camino and may be the proud owner shortly, (need to find some glass)..

Im building a 10.5:1 6"rod 383 w/ pro topline 220 cc runner heads, (aluminum) to drop in the 65, yes, it will be a pro street ride, I also have a 72 chevelle with a solid roller 355 and a set of the iron 215cc PTL's, whitch eats TH350's as fast as I can put them in there. Im sure Ill need the wisdom of all you great Elky owners to help me with my project, I look forward to finishing this project, and the possibility of a great site like this to help me along is well, AWSOME! I have included some links in my sig to show my greatfulness, these two guy's are awsome and I encourage you to check them out to maybe help you along with your project..thanks, 2wld4u

Hey! Im new to this site and I think its great! I have recently run across a 65 El Camino and may be the proud owner shortly, (need to find some glass).. I'm building a 10.5:1 6"rod 383 w/ pro topline 220 cc runner heads, (aluminum) to drop in the 65, yes, it will be a pro street ride, I also have a 72 chevelle with a solid roller 355 and a set of the iron 215cc PTL's, whitch eats TH350's as fast as I can put them in there.

I've gone through three THM 350's before going to a custom built 700R4 in my 1876 Elky. The 700R4 (L60) is a bit stronger than the THM 350, the other benefit is the fourth gear. I have a 383 10.5:1 KB Pistons with 6" Scat rods, Performer RPM head and Air Gap intake. Mild Comp Cam XE268 W/1.6:1 Roller rockers. Mine was twisting the 350s in to two pieces.

The L65 or 4L65e is a stronger transmission. Its a new from GMPP and will withstand 400 lb-ft of torque, stock. GM decided to beef up the 700R4s and re-calibrate the valve body and call it the 4L65e which makes it impossible to use without a controller. Tranny and computer is suppose to sell for just over 2500.00. That is pretty close to the cost of a new 4L80e but not with a computer controller.

Good luck, I sure do like those little 383s. It is amazing how different they are over a 350/355.

Welcome to NECOA/ ECC!
