: custom dash
70Elky 05-22-2004, 11:07 AM Has any body customized thier dash in htier elky. I am thinking about doing it and i drew up a rough draft on how i want to look like. I am going to use Auto meter Pro comp series and i am pretty sure that the letters are pretty common sense. t-tach, s-speedo,w-water temp,g-gas level,o-oil press., b-battery voltage.
72ss454Florida 05-22-2004, 11:45 AM are you talking about customizing a dash for your 70?
I have always wanted to find aftermarket gauges that would fit my 72's SS dash. I have the factory SS dash, but with idiot lights, not the optional gauge package, and I thought some of the cool AutoMeter gauges might look really good in there.
My gauges are typical factory (Small idiot light upper left, Large Fuel gauge, Large Speedo, Large circle for Clock - although mine was not ordered with a clock - then Small idiot lights upper and lower right.
I think the small gauges would fit without destroying the integrity of the original dash, but I cant find 3 of the large gauges to match. So maybe I will just add small ones as close a match as I can get to factory, and just replace where the clock is supposed to go with a factory tach....
what do you think of that?
70ELCO 05-22-2004, 12:50 PM There is a company that makes very nice replacement dash inserts for custom gauges. You can order them with or without the gauges.
Right now they have them for Novas, earlier Chevelles, Camaros and maybe a few others such as the 50's shoeboxes (55-57). They are making our third gen dash inserts and will be available soon for us.
I think they come ready for paint so you can match them to any color interior you want. They look great with the Autometer gauges in them. I will post the company name when I get home. I saw their ad in Popular Hotrodding or Super Chevy magazine. Will share more info soon unless someone else here knows about them also.
I would also love to have one of these to match my '70's all black interior with silver or white face Autometer gauges. They would really stand out!
70ELCO 05-22-2004, 12:57 PM How about this for a wild third gen 1970 interior? And check out the custom dash.

ElCafreak 05-22-2004, 05:06 PM GET THE **** OUTTA HERE!!!! OMG that is a sweet dash. The rest of it is awesome too dude. How different is it from the original? I don't even want to know how much that cost you, what with the crazy steering wheel and stuff. That is the craziest interior I've seen on here yet.
Hope I don't get in trouble cussin, but hey, what can I say?! lol
Nice work
70ELCO 05-22-2004, 05:12 PM Ahhh...No not mine. Don't I wish. Found this cool ride here...

ElCafreak 05-23-2004, 06:15 AM Well thanx for turning us on to those pics. What's your interior look like? I'm almost done with my 80. I'm painting it in a week or 2, and have done all the work myself. I put 3D flames in both the headliner and the door panels. I'll have new pics in the next week or so. Can't wait! Been working on this thing since the fire last April.
70Elky 05-23-2004, 09:12 AM yea that is kinda how i wanted my dash. But i wanted to put in two gauges. Also how do i upload pictures onto this site.
70ELCO 05-24-2004, 01:48 PM Here is the link I was looking for! CHECK THESE OUT!!! WOW! I WANT ONE!

Mrapii 05-24-2004, 02:07 PM That interior in the 1970 El Camino is very nice except for the carpeting.
70ELCO 05-24-2004, 02:12 PM Yep, fully agree Mrapii. Although the color is nice the pattern is what I don't care for. Still a beautiful ride.
ElCafreak 05-24-2004, 06:18 PM Ok, we're all critics, right? lol Altho that is a sweet interior, I don't think it's very functional. The carpet looks like upscale stuff I lay in nice homes. The door panels are cool, but doesn't look like you can even put your arm on the rest. I'm not saying it aint nice, but it's not what I like. I put 3D flames on my panels and got rid of that freakin trim that goes along the top panel. As soon as I get it home(after paint) I'm going to start working on my center consol. Thinking about wrapping it up to the back window and around enclosing the tire space with a fiberglass panel to hold a wall of speakers. I want pics of ALL of your interiors and I'll be uploading mine soon. Been working on my ride since April 03. Painted by June 5th, CAN'T HARDLY EVEN SLEEP!!!! lmao Sounds like a true elky freak right?! lol :onfire:
ElCafreak 05-29-2004, 05:29 PM 70 Elky. If you go to "members cars" click on the generation that corresponds to your year. 3rd generation for a 70. Click on "admin options" then go down to "new nested album". Next page loads click on "admin options" again and click on "add photos". Upload pics from your computer, a floppy or camera. I had a hard time at first too. Check it out. Lets see some pics.
