I am looking for a source to rechrome the plastic trim strips on both
of the doors on my '86 El Camino. The chrome has flaked off and
I would like to redo the strips to original. Any help would be appreciated.

Try some 1" wide 3M self-adhesive metallic silver Mylar tape. Craft stores sell it. It works great for the door panels.

Thanks for the great suggestion Ernie. I think a lot of us have the same problem of the door trim peeling or flaking. I was considering painting mine as I've seen others do. Other then this problem, my door panels are perfect. I'm sure it will take a steady pair of hands and a lot of patience to do it right, but it seems like a very good idea!

My 87 El Camino door panels are all original and the silver trim is still in very good shape. My 79 Elkys silver trim was missing so I replaced it with the 3M silver mylar tape. It's best done when the panels are off the door. You need patience and a sharp razor blade. The end result is very good.

Thanks for the response. I will get the Mylar tape. My upholstery guy
will put it on as I'd have it botched in two minutes. Thanks Ernie G.
