82 meeno 05-27-2004, 06:07 PM MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW SWITCH IS ON THE BLINK I HAVE NEW SWITCH TO PUT IN BUT, MY PROBLEM WHEN I TOOK THE OLD SWITCH OUT.... THE WIRES CAME OUT OF THE SLOTS (PIGTAIL) THAT THEY SHOULD BE IN AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHICH WIRE GOES WHERE!!!!
ITS RAINING HERE IN OHIO, MY WINDOW IS DOWN, AND I HAVE TO DRIVE IT TO WORK TOMORROW!!!!
DOES ANYONE HAVE DIGITAL CAMERA THAT CAN TAKE A PIC OF THE SWITCH, ALL WIRED UP IN THERE ELKY, OR DIRECT ME SOMEWHERE ON THE WEB, THAT I CAN SEE THIS SETUP... I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP!!!!
IF I CAN IT UP TONIGHT (THE WINDOW) HAHA, THEN I WILL HIT THE JUNKYARD AND PULL ONE OFF WITH THE PIGTAIL FROM ANOTHER G-BODY AND PUT IT ON...
THANKS
RAY
leichler 05-27-2004, 06:31 PM I hate to assume, y'all know what that means...but, if your driver side is also electric can't you check the wiring there and replicate the sequence? :?
acauth1 05-27-2004, 06:48 PM The black connector will be labled a through e.
terminal wire color
a = dk blue/wht
b= pink
c= tan
d= brown
e= dk blue
Short term window up:
using the brown wire and the dk blue wire (the two motor wires)
connect one to pink wire and the other to ground, reverse to reverse the motor.
82 meeno 05-27-2004, 08:39 PM Thanks for your help!!!
I tried both methods and still no luck, does this mean that ,my motor is gone out.....

87ElCamino 05-28-2004, 11:58 AM The power windows use a thermal circuit breaker. If it's bad you won't have any voltage for the window motors. Check that before you tear into the door. It could also be a bad ground.
Here is a schematic of the 82 power window circuit.

82 meeno 05-28-2004, 09:22 PM This evening i took my time and ran back through the wiring, tried the temporary fix to get the window up and down and it worked, so obviously it isn't window motor. Its a bad switch and I'm off to the bone yard in the am, to find a couple off of some old g-bodies (hopefully some good ones). If not i'll find one at Napa or somewhere like that...
Thanks for all of your help.... will post back soon.

Tommy 05-29-2004, 06:50 AM I have seen those switchs in the "help" section of Advance Auto. Others probadly carry them too.
82 meeno 05-29-2004, 03:18 PM Well i hit the boneyard this am,,, lucked up on 5 switches for the pass. side and one for the drivers side. Got home and took my time to hook up all of the various switches and to this thing STILL doesn''t work for me. ... However, it does work when i conect a pink wire with one of the wires from the window motor, and connect the other to the ground...... it works fine that way....
Do i have a short somewhere and how do i find it with costing myself a bunch of headaches?
There has to be someone out there that has had this problem.
Is there anyway to set up a toggle switch for the ole Elky window.
Thanks
Ray
87ElCamino 05-29-2004, 03:55 PM Most of the boneyard switches for PW or PDL that I've seen are usually very corroded inside. Since you have several, try opening up one of them and see if it's that way. You may be able to clean it up so that it'll work. Worst case, buy a new one.
82 meeno 05-30-2004, 08:18 AM Thanks 87Elcamino,,, i did think about that before i tried yesteday and cleaned them to a nice shine and still nothing happened... I might have to buy a new one and see what happens. because its got to be the switch since everything else checks out...
1982 SS 05-30-2004, 12:41 PM check your contacts at the motor.
I had that happen intermittantly and that is what it turned out to be.

Robert, not that I doubt your expertise but, could you please confirm the wiring info above.
I've been through this 1000 times, and still no luck, I even bought a new switch, there is a possibility that the new switch is bad as well... I have no problem when i ground the wires and do it that way.
BTW this is Ray, I had to set up a new uname because i forgot my password and it would email me a temp one...
Thanks

Here it is in black and white straight from the factory manual:

Could be, but I would be willing to bet you're missing something obvious...here's a tip: never assume anything.

Let me know if you want me to reset your password for your original uname.

87ElCamino 08-10-2004, 04:26 AM Here's what's in my 82 El Camino electrical schematics. Click on the schematic to make it full size.

Thanks Robert, I'm going to pick up a new switch this evening, I have my wire exactly like your diagram states.
