Hello,
My Name is Brandon, I have a few questions about my El Camino. It is a Brown and Chamagne colored 1984 Conquista El Camino. i have noticed between me, my Dad, and my Grandpa a few things about it. According to the Dash VIN it says it is a 305 4bbl. Well it is certainly not...We have bought many parts for the 305, and the part are WAY to small. we did finally get the right parts, which corresponded with a chevy 350...And get this the engine looks completely factory to the car. it has all of the emissions hoses in the correct spots and everything. It is also completely fully loaded with theDual sport mirrors, AC, Power windows/brakes/locks, Cruise control, bed rails tilt steering, Rpm gauge, didgital Quarts clock, Aux lighting, Gauge package, Conquista package, XLT package, Bumper gaurds...it goes on and on. The VIN also says it is a Super Sport?
also we have a Rally Hub frome it and in it says "specialEdition"...soon to find out the car is a special edition. With the paint sceme with the interior color will tell you if it is a special edition like the champagne paint with dark brown interior. There is also a hood ornament that is imbedded int the steel and my grandpa and dad say its stock but it doesnt look like any other elco hood ornament. it is a flat chevy symbol instead of a raised chevy symbol like all of the others are. it is not a choo choo custom asfar as i know. i just dont know if this is like a dealer car or what? if you know anything about what it is please let me know.. thanks

hey Brandon congratulations on the elco!, my first car is also an el camino which i bought a few months ago. For starts, there is a very good chance there is a 350 under the hood, many of the gbodies have 350 swaps, which is the smartest and most economical small block swap in my opinion. Most of the basic parts like pumps, alternator, belts etc the 305 and 350 share, so what you really need is the casting number? off the engine, and im sure someone will chime in and get you in the right direction with your engine question. Yours is heavily optioned unlike mine which doesn't even have a tach lol. Your car is most likely a conquista, unless the paint scheme was changed, and you cannot figure out whether or not the car is an ss from the VIN, you need to find the service parts identification label, which has the vin and a bunch of codes on it (known as rpo codes), if it has a Z15 it is an SS, which mine has, but doesn't mean much on 5th gens, just a trim package. The SPI label was in my glovebox, but it may be different for your year. There is also a code for the conquista package, not sure of the code off the top of my head, but you can finds the codes all over the forum and the net. You can learn ALOT about you cruck form these codes. Good luck with your elky and I hope I helped or mildly confused you:You_Rock:

Ok thanks..contests to you also on your elco!!! And yes it is a conquista. I can't look at the door for the label because it is worn off, and the glove box for some reason isn't original either? I don't know haha. I have no idea if it is a z15 or not I would just like to no more about it we don't know anything about it other than the obvious like conquista, options and stuff from the VIN. I don't know if you could tell me anything from my vIN or not but from what I could see on an Internet search it said under model: conquista,SS,standard? Thanks for your help mikeselco94.

The Caballero is the GMC version of the Chevy El Camino, They are the same except the badges ! The front grille says caballero instead of chevrolet, The Header emblem says GMC , instead of the red & gold bowtie emblem, The side emblems says Caballero , the tailgate has a GMC emblem instead of the bowtie !!

Hello and Welcome Brandon!
I'm in Kansas city and work not far from Olathe. I own a 1985 GMC Caballero with Chevy badges, because the old guy i bought it from was either confused or just wanted the chevy name, Your guess is as good as mine.
Feel free to PM me if ya have questions or need help tinkering with it. I'd be happy to try and help if i could.

Cool! So how are you gunna build an el camino. Are you just going to get one cheap and redo it or start from Scratch?well im from the "L.A.nd of the gbody"(los angeles:smileyb:) so obtaining a suitable "rust free' candidate is never a problem.after owning 6 of these, and finally presently in the "finnishing" stages of my first 'frame off" resto on my 86,well lets just say ive learned SOO much(and still learning) through fellow gbody enthusiast in the hood as well as from this wonderful site:nanawrench:through these 'teachings this "baby momma drama"(name im giving the build:smileyb:)will be much more easier and faster.dont trip youngster, with your purchase and GREAT choice of your first car,you have been bitten by the "5th gen bug" and im sorry to say there is no remedy except "completing" the way YOU want it to be and look:smileyb:good luck and any way i can help you along your "building journey" dont hesitate to hit me up.

welcome to the forume bro.. if you wanna find out the motor size run the numbers on the block... you say the parts you bought were way to small for a 305 but a 305 and 350 are identical on the outside as far as bolt on components... internals are different but run those numbers and find out... either way enjoy ur g-body

Hey about the internet VIN searches, i did the same thing when i first got my elky, it came up with that exact thing, el camino SS conquista, just the way the website works probably because there all the same thing just with different trim and paint. But if you can find those RPO codes like i was saying, you can learn things like the transmission, rear end ratio posi or open, and all the trim packages your cruck has and all sorts of fun stuff! Forgot to mention there's other places where the RPO codes can be, a quick search can give you some info on locating it and decoding it. If you can't find it, dont fret! there's plenty of other way to identify everything on your elky
