I want to buy an 85 Elcamino but the a/c units is gone. The stubs for the hoses that stick out of the firewall have been hacksawed off. How can I replace the a/c? Go the vintage air route? im an idiot when it comes to a/c. please help a brother out. THanks Ron

GO to my post on 8/12 here. Complete ac swap. Thats the guys you want to talk to. Never done anything like this and they walked me through it. I did everything myself and on the first try i'm blowing 40d for almost two months. Perfect the first time. Don't use used or cheap parts it will cost you more in the long run. Everything under the hood cost about $700.00 Sounds like alot but when you add up the misc. cost you will see it.:nanawrench:

Sounds like the evaporator was screwed up, so it will need to be replaced. That will give you the two stubs from the heater box where the hose/accumulator attaches. New accumulator, and most likely a new condenser. New compressor ( don't go used or rebuilt). Go to the pick and pull and find a similar year car and get all the brackets and bolts for the compressor. You can buy a used set of hoses at the pick and pull, but have a local AC shop replace the rubber portions with new Barrier Hose for R134a. Not expensive. New orfice and orings, and a low pressure switch for the accumulator ( pick and pull or local Autozone). Everything is new or clean, so use PAG oil ( 150) with dye, along with about 43 oz R134a. That should give you a pretty good shopping list.

i have some components for the ac "re-hook-up". accumulator, top plastic cover(harrison label?) and some hose.i always delete this feature as my gbodys are sunday show vehicles and removing this(ac/heater) makes for cleaner engine bay.pm me with your needs and we'll work out a deal.
