I know someone here can answer this easy for me, because electrical stuff on cars is NOT my strong suit by any means :-( ... but my turn signals do not 'blink'. They light up as they are supposed too, but only if I manually move the turn signal lever up and down.... so, since all the bulbs are good and the wiring seems okay, I am suspicious that maybe my turn signal 'flasher' unit is defective or missing...

now on wiring diagrams - like are available here on ECC - I see that there are 2 flasher units for my 72 SS, one for the hazard (emergency) lights and one for the turn signals, and that the one for the turn signals doesnt appear to be mounted on the fuse panel like the hazard one....

and on my Elky, I see the hazard one at the bottom but I do not know WHERE to look for the turn signal 'flasher' if its not on the fuse panel....

is it on the steering column? near it?

can someone clue me in please..... or maybe even a picture under your dash would help.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Mike. On my '72 non SS, the regular flasher is located under the steering column. Just take off the four screws holding on a plastic cover right under the steering column. It is only about 5 inches by 5 inches. Then you will be able to see and replace the flasher.

Hope it helps.

Hey Mike, I own a 70 el camino and 70 chevelle ss 396 and have found the turn signal flasher mounted more towards the center of the dash, look under the dash towards the center behind where the original radio mounts, its held in place by a metal two pronged holder which is held in place with a sheet metal screw, buy the best quality flasher that you can buy, worth the extra money, hope this helps.

Thanks Mike and a72elky....

had to take my aftermarket radio out last night (something I was going to do anyway since it was a poor installation by a previous owner) and sure enough! there it was kind of sitting on top of the radio!!! :)

I took my hazard flasher (#552) which was brand new and temporarily plugged it in and VIOLA......flashing turn signals!! So all I have to do is get a new flasher.

I appreciate the help. I was lost looking for it, and never thought about it sitting up on the radio 8O

:P
