Heres the deal, you talk to someone about their car you going to go look at and you ask them if there is any rust issues and they say no. So then you get there and look up under it and see the floor pans rusted out. So heres the trick to it. You say I thought you said there wasn't any rust? They ALWAYS answer I haven't seen any, so you reach up and break off a piece of their floor pan and hand it to them and say (you see it now?)
You can bet that the next guy that asks about rust will get a correct responce, either that or dudes gonna have more metal handed to him then whats left under the car. If I ask you if theres rust it might be a good idea to tell me you don't know or there is some. but do NOT tell me theres no rust unless you want the proof handed to you!:let_it_all_out:
Bad habit????:dontknow:
Proves the point.

Thats about the third time it's happened. Today I drive clear across Dallas to look at a rust free 65 Pony car. Thats when the problems start.
The heater core was hanging down under the dash, no box, no fan, nothing just a heater core hanging on the hoses!!!!:let_it_all_out:
Then when I crawl down and look under.......
Lets just say he had a little less car to his car when I left. On the flip side he had more metal in his pocket!!!:nanawrench:

From my experience the majority of people selling a vehicle knows when they have rust and thats why they're selling it and they are hoping that the person coming to buy doesn't have a clue and they can unload it for a profit. When I say rust I don't mean just surface rust either. When I bought my Caballero one of the Elkys I looked at had rust so bad that the only thing holding the rear glass up was all the silicone the guy had shoved in the holes(the only thing holding all the cancer together).I slid a pen knife under the window trim (outside)and when it moved the interior molding you could see the silicone, must have been an inch thick.

people hate it when i look over a car to buy it. i have a bad habbit of picking it apart, down to knocking and feeling around for bondo, rust, even tread wear on tires. ill check the engine oil, and if its auto the trans fluid as well. i wont buy a car untill ive test drove it also, and i prefer to let it set and idle a lil bit as well. maybe im just too picky lol

I do like your line of thinking DDD.
I also agree with zach, after i do the test drive I like to let it sit and idle while i ask a few questions. Then walk around it knocking on fenders and have even use a small magnet.

Maybe they think if they don't acknowledge it on the drive home and by clicking their heels three times it will disappear. If you don't kick, knock, feel and look under the microscope then you get what you deserve. You never know they may think you will say it's worth it? You may pull it of once but the second time I'll tell you take it know before someone else does.:baby::agreed:

I bought a "rust free" 72 as a project from a "friend of a friend". I was expecting to rebuild the engine, change the interior and put new wheels and tires on. I did all those PLUS, replaced both rear quarters, full floor pan, smugglers floor pan and drivers door skin! I no longer have that "friend of a friend" but do have a solid, but expensive, Elky! I'll take the DDD approach if there is a next time!!

You snap off a piece of metal (rust, actualy) from under my car and the old "you break it, you bought it" policy goes into effect.:poke:

This reminds me of a Dodge 2500 Cummins I saw at a dealership. They painted everything in the fenderwells (springs, shocks, etc) so when you looking at it, it looks clean. I got on all 4s and there was probably 6 inches of mud caked on everything! Good cleaning job guys...
