ok, to start with, there are no pics because the car (which was still there!) is the wrong year.
Let the razzing and comments begin.
Now, since none of you are from this area, I'll share what I'm up to. The car I went to see today was a 95 Grand Am. I WAS able to get the upholstery off of the back seat which is an EXACT match to the first rear seat upholsery I got, so I can have 2 matching upper door panels without dying one or both. That's a relief.
The part I was going to go get was the ac/heater box/assembly, w/ ducts and controls for $40.00, but it's the wrong year.
What you wanna do is get the ac/heater box/assembly from a 98-05 Pontiac Grand Prix/Grand Am. It all fits up under the dash. Then you can pull the ac/heater ass'y out of your elkie, put in a smooth firewall, and then mount the Pontiac unit up under the dash. You might lose room for the inner glove box if using a stock dash.
Listen! If you listen close right now, you can hear dozens of hands smacking foreheads !! LMAO
The interior on a Grand Prix/Grand Am is much bigger than the inside of your elkie, so you should be either nice and toasty or have icicles on your nose, depending on the season.
If you need even more temp control, get one out of a mini van!!. Just be sure and get the ac/heat unit, controls, and ducting all at the same time. If you take it out yourself, can even get all the wiring! Worst case, be sure and get all the electrical connectors and at least 6 inches of wire on each one. Label it as you take them out, and you can run new wires. (and PLEASE don't run all the new wires in red!! )
About a month ago, I was inspecting cars at work, thinking about the ac/heat in my elkie. I was under the hood of a d**** Caravan and thought to myself, "Why can't my firewall be smooth like this one?"
THIS FIREWALL IS SMOOTH DUMMY!!!!!
Then I started thinking and looking around and came up with the Pontiac plan.
Just think, if you ever need parts for it, you can get them from a dealer, NAPA, Advance, etc, or even a salvage yard!! No waiting for parts from a street rod supplier and paying a premium too!
So here's your assignment non-stock elkie owners! Go out and strip a Pontiac today! (while you're there, grab the mirror with those neat built-in courtesy lights too!)
Class dismissed!
