CALLING ALL REGION 14 EL CAMINO'S!!!

The event of the year is upon us! Tomorrow, October 2, marks the start of one of the coolest, large-scale car shows out there.

From Bay of St. Louis to Ocean Springs, there will be up-wards of 5000+ classic cars lining the Mississippi Gulf Coast, parked at daily venues and lighting up the streets at night during this most unprecedented event.

You DO NOT want to miss this event!

Let's see how many El Camino's we can get to show and represent NECOA.

Here's a link to the event: Cruisin' the Coast (http://www.cruisinthecoast.com/)

Hope to see you there!!!

Note: I will be there from Thursday evening to Saturday afternoon. PM me to meet up or simply respond to this thread.

My wife and I will be there for the day and probably end up at Edgewater Mall after lunch because it's easy to reach. The good weather forecast should ensure a big turnout overall. Hope to see you then.

I was there on Saturday afternoon. I did not even know about this event. I was visiting my sister in Mississippi. Although I did not go to the events, I just rode through on the beach boulevard.

I want to know who owns the purple Elky with the oversized chrome wheels that I saw driving around downtown Picayune, MS on Sunday.

Anybody?

As of Wednesday, 4287 vehicles registered from 35 states and Canada. I'm number 2976. I just got back from cruisin' thru Ocean Springs and Edgewater mall. Next stop Long Beach marina. I got my Corvette mirrors mounted last Friday, and added QTP electric cut-outs. The Elky looks good and sounds bitchin''....

The Deep South Mopars had an event (non-Crusin sponsored) call Mopars at the marina on thursday afternoon. Over 120 Mopars showed up. If we talked it up, I'll bet we could do something like that next year. Just bring your lawn chair, and a pop-up tent, and a cooler. There are rest rooms near by, an plenty of food joints across the hwy. think about it.

It was nice meeting y'all at Edgewater. Hope y'all had a safe trip back.

We ended up having a fender bender the next day on our way back to the hotel from Bay St. Louis. We're ok but the Elky had some hood and grill damage. We still had a gr8 time nevertheless.

Maybe we could plan an event for next year with NECOA's support? :poke: A great meeting from all those close enough to come over for a day or two, with a motel reserved for those of us, like myself and the poppa'gater, who may be traveling. I've been wanting to make this event ever since I heard about it several years ago, It would be so much greater if there were several other Elkies to Cruise with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone up for that? How about it, Bayou Elky, do you want to take responsibility for the planning of the NECOA participation next year?.......................Ken

We were there on Friday, met Gr8ridejester and it was great to put a face with a forum post! We saw almost every year of El Camino production that day. The registered turnout was unprecedented with over 5,000 vehicles: the year before Katrina the max was about 4,000. An offsite location as 84withzz4 suggested or an easy access on-site location targeted for the week for official and informal NECOA gathering/parking would be nice. We ended up talking to quite a few owners outside of the gulf coast region and look forward to next year.

Most of the hotels on the beach in Biloxi are either already booked or not available to book just yet for the week of Cruisin' the Coast next year (Oct. 7-14). I find it easier to just stay off the beach in hotels closer to the interstate...cheaper rates and less noise at night.

The best thing we can do is look into a vacant property that's for sale and offer to rent the lot for a day. We could just have the El Camino display that way and not have to worry about everyone staying in the same hotel.

Any ideas are welcome! :dontknow:

kenrogers1
10-17-2011, 11:11 AM
I vote for a group hotel, maybe somewhere on the outer reaches of the area where we want to gather. The lot rental sounds like an excellent idea if it's a possibility for just 2 or 3 days. Whoever's familiar with the area can maybe identify some prospective hotels, or maybe we should use a travel agency, since the hotels book up fast. It looks like we could have 15 to 20 members eventually. What are the thoughts of the group?.......................Ken

10-17-2011, 12:22 PM
My wife and I stayed at the Country Inn & Suites in Ocean Springs this last time. It was a really good location -- it's next to the interstate and a short drive down the road to get to Hwy. 90 (Beach Blvd.). The staff were more than accomidating...even let me check out late without penalty when I got in my accident. They have a free breakfast from 5am - 9am; including waffles, hash browns, bacon, sausage, cereal, etc.

If we book early enough, maybe we could all get the first floor or something.

I'd be happy to call them, but you're welcome to do so since you have the contact info, are familiar with them, etc. etc.. If you do, be sure and ask them about group rates. For the Belton show, we got a group rate because we booked more than 10 rooms. From the sound of it, we should be able to do the same here without a problem.

Also, love the idea of renting a lot to be our NEOCA base on the strip. Will definitely need a local to scout that out and get the contact info.

Any way I can help, just let me know.:nanawrench:

The Holiday Inn Express, where we're staying at, is located by the interstate, which is not a problem to display but is not on the beach. The hotel mentioned they have the space for us to gather with our vehicles, if we so choose. So, that is a viable option. I'm still looking into other possiblities though.

Cruisin' the Coast is a week-long event and spans from Bay of St. Louis to Ocean Springs. There are daily venues (like a car show with music, food, etc.); there's an auction that goes on; flame throwing contests; or, just cruise up and down Hwy. 90, where you'll be joined by thousands of other classics.

Two nights are reserved, but if a person wants to come earlier and stay later than the two days, will the price for the rooms be the same? If I'm driving that distance, I want to do a lot of cruisin', and that can't be done in just two days with plans for what's happening with just the Elky group. I have friends in the area (Biloxi) I want to meet up with, but not stay with. I don't want a jump of $20-30 per night outside the two days. AND, I'll bet they will accomodate.

I have friends in the area (Biloxi) I want to meet up with, but not stay with. I don't want a jump of $20-30 per night outside the two days. AND, I'll bet they will accomodate.
You can check with our contact, which I PM'd you, if other dates are available and the costs associated with it. Rooms book up quickly for CtC, so they may or may not have any available. Good luck! Keep us posted on your findings.

My wife and I stayed at the Country Inn & Suites, which is across the street from the Holiday Inn Express in Ocean Springs, last year and had a great experience. So, that may be an alternate if HIX is booked.:dontknow:

For those of you who are new to Cruisin' the Coast, every year a raffle car is donated by a local business with the proceeds going towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This year's car is a 1971 Camaro!

Check out the specs on it and get more information about the raffle car below:

Well, the biggest thing coming up is the last Saturday of the month (May 26); the 2nd Annual Texas Inviational in Belton, TX, which Jimmy and I will be at.

This weekend, there is the Wheelin' N Peelin' Car Show in Rayne, LA INFO (http://www.crowleypostsignal.com/view/full_story/18497952/article-Wheelin%E2%80%99-N-Peelin%E2%80%99-show-revs-up-Saturday?instance=secondary_news_left_column).

The next Tanger Mall car show is on May 19th from 4pm - till.

There will be a car show at the Hooter in Denham Springs, LA on May 20th starting at 4pm.

Here are a couple of links for some upcoming car shows in Louisiana:

I've come up with a flyer for those attending Cruisin' the Coast this year. If you attend the 2nd Annual Texas Invitational in Belton, TX, you will receive a hard copy in your goody bag.

If you see anything that needs modified on the flyer or feel additional information is needed, please let me know.

Thanks,
Josh

Hey I like it! Maybe we (all) can get together and put up donations to have a catered dinner on Friday evening. Hope something good is planned for saturday too. I want to meet more of my NECOA Brethren and enjoy more of this great event too!

I think a catered dinner would be great. No one has to work at getting food there, cooking, setting up tables, etc. BUT, where would the caterer deliver the food, and is there seating/tables available? Just something to think about, with a very good suggestion.

We have the meeting room reserved at the Holiday Inn Express from 5pm - 9pm, so we could definitely hire a catering service. I'll get a Paypal account setup for people to make donations, if this is the general consensus. I'll create a poll...

I'm in favor....good idea, Randy. Might as well, since we already have the meeting room reserved. Something simple and inexpensive like BBQ would be good.

The updated flyer looks great Josh! Glenn the BBQ thing would probably work for all too. Maybe it should be BYOB. I'd break the bar tab myself if that was included! We can start to work on a real head count around the end of August maybe because a caterer will probably have a per person charge for their price. Or maybe some BBQ place nearby can take a bulk order for pickup. Josh maybe you can feel that out when you have some time...and please e-mail me the updated flyer .

Thanks...Randy

Thanks for the compliments on the flyer. :cool4:

Randy, I'm going to get the general consensus for what most will want to have. I will check on some of the local places to get a feel for the prices and availability during CtC. I know the Shed, located in Ocean Springs outskirts, recently had a fire, but they are supposed to be up and running by the time CtC comes around. That's one of the best places, IMHO, around there for BBQ. Ken will be taking care of printing out the flyers, but i'll email you a copy of it.

BBQ for the meet night is a real good idea and a time saver, allows you to move about and meet and great and show and gives you the hole time right there now 2 hour food search. I am in and can send via check or paypal.

BYOB is also the way to go. Maybe the catering can be set up with a named box dinner for each that wants the delivery at the meet room or ???

I just called our contact at Holiday Inn Express and was told there are only eight ( 8 ) more rooms available under our block. After September 27, 2012, any remaining room(s) will be released from us and reserved out to whoever calls first.

If you plan to make reservations, you need to do so SOONER THAN LATER!

Again, all of the rooms are double queens and are only $89 per night, which is an EXTREMELY good deal. The dates we have reserved are Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 and Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, so check out would be Sat., Oct. 13, 2012 at 11am.

:secret:**PM me for the reservation information**:secret:

Some catering options are being faxed to me today, so I will let ya'll know what I find out from that.

I received the same offer for Wed. - Sat. as well; however, if someone is trying to book right now, they may not have the rooms available other than the ones we have blocked off (Thurs. and Fri.). Please do check, if you plan on staying longer though.
