I was aware there was a venting problem with Spectra tanks so I called Spectra prior to ordering a new 22 gallon tank.

I was assured the problem had been solved, that the tank vented properly, so off I went to the local NAPA store to order the tank.

That was early this past Spring and after pretty much rebuilding the ElCamino I finally had the opportunity to fill the tank this afternoon.

I am betting you already know what happen :let_it_all_out:

Yes regardless of what their Engineer/Tech said, Spectra still has a problem with their 22 gallon tank venting properly.

I guess I now know of at least one Elky project for the coming Winter.
Reworking the ##%^&XXX tank !!

That sucks, and unfortunatly you don't know if it will take fuel or not without really trying it. I really don't think I'd put any aftermarket tank on a 5th gen without adding an external vent line (I learned the hard way too..)

I had a problem with the 22 gal spectra tank I installed .When you went to put gas in , it wouldn't go in and would shoot back out of the tank ,If you look down the neck theres a plate in there I just put a pry bar down the neck and bent it out of the way a little and it works fine now !

Wow I hope it's as simple as that Jack.
Not really looking forward to adding a vent line to the tank with the drilling and soldering required,

I had a distant relative die as a result of injuries from a fuel tank explosion many years ago.

Donny the problem is the tank is not vented properly.
When the tank is less then half full it belches fuel out the filler neck of the tank.

Do a search on this issue there are a couple of excellent threads on the fix.

Jack, which way did you bend the plate- Down towards the ground, or up towards the bed? Inquiring minds want to know ( before I go and bend it the wrong way!

I bent it up towards the bed it's not to easy to bend it only moved a little . It worked for me ! I have no problems with it now ! Good luck with it !

I think the plate was keeping the fuel nozzle from going in the neck far enough causeing the problem ? Bending it up a little worked for me !
