Well I just today bought a 94 caprice with the LT-1 in it. I am going to install it into my 83 elly that now has a V-6. I plan on taking a lot of pictures and documenting everything that I do and will put posts of my progress. I'm in the navy and am leaving for 2 months to south america so I won't be able to start till I come back and am able to take 2 weeks leave. I know it will be a time crunch(sence I really don't know exactly what it will take) but I have no other choice. So till then I won't be able to get online. Talk to you all in a coulpe months.

P.S. any pointers from those of you that have already done this would be apreciated.

I just realized while driving it home that the car has a digital speedometer in it. How will I be able to hook my old speedo with no cable? Is there something that I can get in order to convert it to cable?

I am interested to here about your progress with the ELKY. My son is based at Point Mugu. He is training on the U.S.S. Nimitz for a couple of weeks. Keep us up to date.

How is this project progressing? I am considering a an LT-1 from a '94 Buick Roadmaster for my '82 Caballero.

You can still use a mech speedo. You will need a Cable-X box they allow you to operate a mechanical speedometer on a vehicle equipped with an electronic speedometer signal sensor, as is the case from the LT1 A4. Give me a email or call if you need more details.

Thanks Scott

Well I haven't been able to really get into this project due to the schedule that my ship has had. Although I have pulled the engine out and had it rebuilt. Seemed like it was a good idea since it had over 350,000 miles on it. Shows you what a Chevy can do. On the first of January I go on leave and will really jump into it. Will let you know how it goes. And thanks for the info on the speedo it will come in handy.

Good luck on your Navy South American cruise, Ken. I made one of the early UNITAS South American cruises on a tin can.

Thanks for your service to this great country of ours and happy holidays!

Well I have been doing a lot of work on my lt1. I have pictures of everything. But today was no good. I had my engine completely built sitting on a stand in my shop and am in the process of pulling my V-6 out when today while I was away my wood stove caught a box of wood that was near it on fire and burned the whole corner of my shop before the fire department arrived. I didn't reach the engine yet but there is tons of smoke damage. It is going to take days to clean the engine back up and it will never be as nice as it was. Not to mention the fact that it reeked havoc on my shop and now due to the fact of having to deal with that I won’t have time to complete the installation before I have to go to school in Illinois for 6 months. :-( Well at least it wasn't a total loss. I can't be negative about everything.

I'm interested in this too (fellow Sailor as well FC1(SW) ) My 86 is dying for a new motor. The little V-6 has been great, but I want an 8 and I'd love to put the LT/LS series in there. Let me know how it goes. Thanks.
Haze gray and under way...(whistle).

Well I graduated form machinest school and am back home for a few weeks. Sure is nice to be able to work on my car and see an end in sight. I've now got the engine sittin in the hole with tranny, cross member, and driveline in.
I hooked up the power steering lines and found that the caprice's high pressure line was a perfect fit and with very little mod. the return worked as well. Also with slight alteration to the resivor bracket(it also held the ac acccumulater which I din't need) mounted up on the pasanger wheel well.
I removed the purge canister from infront of the drivers wheel well and after notching the computer mount/air cleaner mount I put it in it's place.
If all goes well I hope to have her running by the time I have to report to San Diego. I will post more as it comes.

Today I got my hands on a v-8 el camino radiator and set it in. I need to make a run to the U-Pull-It yard and look for mounts for it. I'm running electric fans so I'm not going to have a shroud to hold the radiator in place. The caprice radiator hoses will work with just over an inch shortened from the end.
The exhast manifolds from the caprice were installed and I am going to have to have custom exhast installed.
I set the wireing harness in and started to route some of it. I am going to have a lot of modification to do on it sence the caprice didn't have seprate body and engine harnesses. I will leave that for a later date though.
More as it comes.

Are you running A/C? I am interested in how you get by the clearance problem if you are.

Sorry for the long absence in posting, I got frustrated with the fact that due to my choice to be in the navy it has not given me much time for my car. Especially now that I am in San Diego for the next 4 years and my car is in Portland Oregon. To answer your question about A/C, I left it off, I didn't feel much need for it in Oregon and figured I could always go back at a later date when I had more time and switch my brackets if I felt the need. Some good news, my father, whose house the car is at, stated that he would be willing to do some if not a lot of the wiring for me while I am gone and I hopefully will be able to go home on leave at periodic times and button up the rest of it. Also he happened to come across an f/i el camino at a wrecking yard and got me my gas tank and sending unit. That will most defiantly come in handy if and when I get to go home and work on it. Well till later.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably leave of the A/C for now, although it will be less bearable here in the Southeast. I have a F/I tank but have not been able to locate a sending unit. Keep us updated and thank you for your service.

Caminocrazy, I see you used your '94 Caprice high pressure power steering hose. Did it have the proper hose end on the steering box end? If so I will go that route as well. By the way I am from the Portland area also. (Boring, Oregon) For everyone else out there, there really is a Boring Oregon. :)
