MUSCLE CAR CITY MEET February 18, 2012

Lets hope this is a good date for all to come and enjoy a large collection of cars and a cruise-in show at the same location same time Saturday the 18th in the 9:00AM area. I have no idea what the show or cruise is like but it is a monthly deal, and all I have heard about this collection is good. OK now I am in need input on the second part of this meet. Choices

A) Cruise-in, on Friday night 6 to 9 PM put on every month by Lances Crusin to the Hop and it is 30 miles north of the hotel or the Muscle Car city location in Venice.
or :nanawrench:

B) Meet for a dinner Friday night and BS at a local restaurant and return to hotel.
or :nanawrench:

C) Go to another Crusin to the HOP cruise-in at a Wendy's 16 miles north in North Port on Saturday from 6 to 9 PM (long day) (do nothing on Friday, OR dinner for those that wish to meet)

My 2 cents is for a group dinner on Friday and the Muscle Car City and Show Saturday and that is enough cars. . Please do give a count on if you are in or not. Also there is a DAYS INN and Motel 6 at the Exit 161 of I75 a short 1 1/2 miles distance to the Muscle Car City.

Should the weather not be to our liking then we just move the meet to another month that is free of other meets like April or May

Jay , The Muscle Car Museum on Sat. Feb. 18, 2012 sounds good to me . With the distance for me , I will come up by Fri. Feb. 17 to be there for Sat. morning . All the choices you checked out for us are good . I am flexible and will join in what the majority wants to do . Thanks for doing the leg work on the info and choices . The motels close to the museum would be my choice . This will also be a good location for other members that live in that area that have not been able to come to other events we have had on that coast . :smileyb:

It all sounds good to me. I live about 15 minutes from the museum. It is a really good show and deal. Also, Lance does a great job with his shows. I will go with whatever the majority wants to do. A Friday nite get together would be good.

With my job and all, I just might be able to make this one, and meet some of the "Mob".

If anyone has a question about the area, drop a note, or P.M. and I can give info on resturants, Hotels, B&B's etc.

Today Lenny did his Motel magic!! Suggest you act NOW

The Two place at the off ramp of I75 and exit 161, Days Inn closed other is booked full. Other places around area were Hotels and quite higher priced.

The place Lenny an I will be at is the American Inn 10151 Tamiami Trail, Punta Gorda Fl 33950, 941 637-1376. This is 1.8 miles South of the Muscle Car City even though the address is very different in hundred blocks, the American Inn has ground level rooms car parking directly outside rooms, Rate was $65.00 a night calling direct to number above, more if you book via computer. The other Days Inn in the area was already booked for the dates, it is the season in that area and things book up at the lower prices. This is a poke in the dark but looks Ok by the picture and description. Let all stay there safety in numbers and more eyes on the cars. Will advise if a find out anything to the different!!

Hold off on making any reservations at the American Inn for now . Jay contacted Sam Judi , that lives in the area and he volunteered to get us info . The motel is small and may not have much room for us and from him going over to look at it , we may be better off getting another motel closer to Punta Gorda and drive a little more to the museum . Punta Gorda is just up the road and not far at all . Sam got us a phone # and name for the Chamber Of Commerce and I will contact him and see what they suggest for a motel . We prefer motels as you can usually get a downstairs room with you car parked right outside or nearby to keep an occasional eye out on it . Sam recommended a restaurant named Lashley`s Crab Shack that is good and reasonably priced . I called a friend of mine in the area and he recommended it also . Thanks Jay and Sam . More info to come .

samjudi
11-12-2011, 07:22 AM
Nothing in Punta Gorda is very far. Several good motels, depending on how much you want to pay. American Inn is out away, and in a questionable area. Rents by day,week,month......
You can check out Laishley Crab house at:

www.laishleycrabhouse.com (http://www.laishleycrabhouse.com)

Would be a good Friday nite meet. They have seperate rooms, and check the outside "Pickup Bar".

If any have questions, P.M. me and I will try to help.
P.G. Chamber of Commerce, John Wright is a good source of info for rooms, food, local sites. Suggest coming in on Friday, leaving Sunday Morning. Relax and enjoy our little town (I do not work for C of C.).

Lenny has done his stuff, I contacted Samjudi a member of course that lives in the Punta Gorda area he was good enough to get us info on the Motel and here is the change, We have moved to the KNIGHTS INN recently purchased by Motel 6 and is and has done some work to make it up to date. So book now (64.99) as it is the same story everything books up do to the season, remember you can always cancel but if there full it's a problem. So Knights Inn 9300 knights Drive 941-505 5701 located right off I75 at exit 161. Lenny is arriving on the 16th I arrive on the 17th we will leave on the 18th I believe.

The Friday dinner will be a Laishley's Crab House in Laishley's Park Marina at 100 Retta Esplanade Punt Gorda. This will be at 6:00 pm Friday the 17th leave as a group from Motel or meet there.

Muscle Car City cruise/show is Saturday from 9AM to 1PM, with the museum being open until 5pm.

Knight's Inn is a good deal, and I believe a better location, though not next door to the Museum. Looking forward to the dinner at Laishley. I do not believe any will be disappointed.

If I can get a final count, closer to the date, I will make reservations, so that we can have a private dinning room.

Again, if there are any questions, feel free to contact me. I have no financials in any of these places, just a lot of money in my '84 Elky....

A special shout out to Sam Harris for his assistance in getting us info , checking out the motel and the Chamber Of Commerce contact . Pat at the Chamber was very nice and helpful . The Knights Inn ( Motel 6 ) , is convenient and near the Days Inn where we were initially interested in but had booked up very near exit 161 of the I 75 . As Sam said , a short ride will get us to the Muscle Car City Museum and into the Punta Gorda community . Our plan is to meet at the Knights Inn motel at 6 pm on Fri. Feb. 17 , 2012 and drive to Laishley`s Crab House for dinner . Prices are $ 12 to $ 20 . In January , we can put up a post and get a more accurate dinner count so one of us can contact them and try to get us seated together . While in Punta Gorda some may want to go to the Fisherman`s Village which is supposed to be a nice waterfront mall area with nice shoppes and restaurants .

I just took my son and grandsons to the Muscle car museum. There are over 200 G.M. cars, encluding one Corvette valued at $1.3 million. Several Elkys, none quite that expensie.
Anyone can checkout the resturant at:
www.laishleycrabhouse,com (http://www.laishleycrabhouse,com)

If we get a big enough group, we can have a private dining area. Will need a total number by the week before.

I will not get my Feb. Schedule until middle of January, but I can usually get Fri/Sat. off, so I plan to be there. Really looking forward to it. Will make reservations at the Resturant in any case. Just need a rough count, about 1 week before. Hope we can get a good turnout. The trip will be worth it, and give all the other cars something to drool over. Punta Gorda is only about 3-4 hrs. away from the farthest reaches of Fla. Just down I-75.

For those of you that need but have not reserved a room , several of us are staying at the Knights Inn at 9300 Knights Drive which is just west and off of exit 161 on I 75 . I called Knights Inn yesterday to add another day , only to find that someone had not posted my reservation I made back in October . I called 1-800-843-5644 , the national number of Windham which owns Knights Inn and ended up getting a cheaper rate of $ 47.19 per night , before taxes . Don`t wait too late if you need a room as this is the tourist season in that area . The local number for the Knights Inn motel is 941-505-5701 . We will meet up at the Knights Inn and drive the few miles to the seafood restaurant for dinner on Fri. evening and to the Muscle Car City Museum on Saturday .

Paulie , Thanks for your interest . We would love for you to join us but realize it may be too far for you from Alabama . We have not posted anything yet as we are just starting to discuss it privately for now but we are talking about something in Gainesville , Fl. in the coming months . The next closest event to you that we do is in Oct. for the National Parts Depot`s All GM Show in Silver Springs nearby to Ocala . Info and photos on another thread you may want to check out . We have been encouraging and hoping that members in the very northern and western part of Florida would start getting together with other Florida members as well as those in Southern Georgia and Alabama but so far it has been inactive . In case you are not aware there is a great cruise/ tour " Cruising The Gulf " around I believe Biloxi you can find info here on ECC that is much closer to you and sounds like a fabulous event . Several of our members are going on the road trip and our Region 6 Fl. , Deputy Director and Deputy National Director Randy , rtawk is helping to organize with a group of members from Texas .

The car show is in conjunction with the Ch. County Fair. Should be a big event.
Generally reservations are not required at the Crab House, but if we get a decent size group, we can get a private dinning room, and a chance to catch-up with all.

I count about 10 diners now. If I can get a final count by Monday of the week(13th ?), I will make reservations. Also best time? 7 p.m.??
A great bar is available(built around a 1927 Chev. Pickup), if anyone come to dinner early.

He only wants Super Chevy the 23rd.

...From the Mayor's e-mail to me

Yep, I got all ready - called Chuck to see what time he wanted to leave. It sucks to get old.
I hate being able to use that excuse for screw ups. LOL
Instead I started painting the inside of the new garage.

O.K., we have reservations at Laishley Crab House for 8 people at 6:00 p.m. Friday nite(2/17). I can add to it if more decide to come. Meet at the"Truck Bar" (ya gotta see it), around 5:00 p.m. for drinks.
Directions:
I-75 to exit 164 (U.S. 17, Arcadia/Punta Gorda), turn WEST toward P.G. forget the Stop lights around the Interstate, but go to second light(first is 'Marilympia'), 'Nesbit St.'. Right on Nesbit to the Round-a-bout. Resturant is right there. If you have any questions, call me at: (941) 626-0552.

Temp may be up to 85 degrees so a shade tarp my be in order and the area is fairly costal so some breeze, also we will be inside half of the day checking out the cars, rain chances are for Friday 30% afternoon and evening and good for Saturday and big temp drop for Sunday with 50% on rain. Right now most of the the rain chances are Friday & Sunday and all that could change tomorrow, after all this is Florida. I am 125 miles North and the brain is said tone 50 % for Sat and Sun ????

Yes I have three 10x10 canopy tents I'm bringing. If theres a problem with having them there I'll just keep'em in the bed

I have seen the shade covers there in the past. I don't know if they just put them up with or without permission.

Thanks Matt! 2 is probably enough. They might come in handy.

I'm gonna mosey on over in the morning some time. I'm waiting until this evening just before dark to give the Cabby a wash off from that accursed yellow pine pollen! I plan to just drop down and cruise across route 70. Its a bit less hectic than the traffic lights and interstate route through Kissimmee. The Cabby likes those speeds better than the 70+ stuff too...lol I checked out the menu online for that restaurant and have been hungry ever since! Can't wait! I'll locate the computerless Lenny when I get there. Which way are you guys from down Palm Beach/ Boca way going over?

We'll go across 70 but take the low route around the lake(Belle glade, Clewiston). We probably won't leave until around 2 PM.
