Ok this weekend here in nowhere's ville(Devils Lake), North Dakota, was the 12th Annual Devils Run. I am very proud of my elky so I decided to enter it. One of the nites was a car show with contests, flamethrowing, muffler rapping(and open exhaust), burn-out, and balance beam. Well since i dont have pipes yet I didn't do the first 2 events, I did however do the burnout and balance beam. After the burnout there were a few people that came up to me and admitted to laughing at me while I was pulling my car onto the burn out pad. Then they said I astounded them with how I performed, and that I should have won, and I all i have is a tired 'ol 305 in my 1987 not bad body(soon to have a 350 dropped in), but I was up against 383's, 340's, 396's, and 454's. And a few of my friends who used to 'rag' on me about my elky, well lets just say that has stopped. The whole time I'm thinking you all wait til next year when ill have a 350 dropped in there. I aslo did the balance beam a few times, the first time I failed, 2nd time was 1min 17secs, 3rd time 26secs, and the rules for that I can have 1 other person, anywhere I want, box cab whatever, that I did win, mostly thanks to my passenger(thanks man).
Just thought I'd share a little story of my wonderful weekend with everyone here. :-D

Sounds like a good show. Congrats. I don't want to sound like a total noob  . I've been to many shows and events. But what is the "balance beam"?
Did anybody take any pic's you can post?

the blanace beam is basically a simple trailer, with ramps so that cars can get up on it. when set up right it is perfectly balanced. the object of the event is to balance your car on it as fast as you can. i did 26 seconds my 3rd time up there. there are people that have done it many more times that cant even do it that quickly.....i owe it mostly to my elky....hurray...but my passenger in the back did lots of work too. i hear people talking about it in the crowd...saying how easy it looks.....WELL ITS NOT! but its basically just a normal trailer.

Thanks for the clarification Darren. I've never seen that at shows, but I like the idea. It does sound a little challenging, especially with a ton of people all standing around watching. I would assume this is a single axle trailer???

I know, I would have tough time of it. You doing it in 26 seconds is very fast.

I always like it when the show sponsor has some kind of activity besides just the show cars. A little friendly competition is always a good thing.

Thanks
