Ok i need a seat pretty badly and i want buckets. it came with a 60/40 but ive been told that it would be easier to get a bucket seat from another G-body and use them but theres only one bracket on each side and dont you need 2 on each to put in buckets? Also i wouldnt mind haveing like a racing seat like Corbeau or like APC but how much of a hassle would that be to put in?

OPGI has some nice, reasonably priced buckets (with appropriate brackets for conversion from benches) for lots of years including 79's. The are Procar brand, and they might be just what you need.

Here's the link, I hope it works:

oh okay...sorry, since I read you were also talking about APC or Cordeau racing seats, I assumed you meant new seats. Sorry about that.

For something used and probably a LOT more within your budget, I would recommend you search E-bay.

Here are a few examples to whet your appetite:

just type 'bucket seats' at the search function and have fun.

good luck

If your Elky came with 60/40 from the factory it should have the 4 seat mounts on each side for the buckets.
I have an 87 that came with the 60/40's and it had the 4 seat mounts and the buckets fit perfect.I used 87 Grand Prix in mine but like they told you, any G body will work.
If yours doesn't and you want to install buckets you will have to cut the inner mounts from the donor car,I have cut them out with a sharp chissel and it worked fine. Time to go junk yarding !

I put some apc racing seats in my 76, the cost $350 on ebay Shipping included. and i went to a metal shop and got 4 16 in pieces of 1" angle iron and made a few bends to make it fit level on the floor and then i welded them to the floorand used screws that come with to attach them to the brackets i made theses seats come with an adjustible slide mecanism. the are extreamly good seats in my oppinion.

check them out

nice they look nice...i guess that it didnt come 60/40 cuz theres only 2 mounts....i guess i will have to go to a junk yard....

i really want to use the apc buckets but cuting out the old mounts would make the floor weeker and im not sure how much but i dont want to fall out of my car while im gunning it off the stop lights (little exaggeration)

But then i could take them to a customs shop and have them install them and maybe some sort of brace? i dont no im not very car literate

Go with the apc seats if that is what you like,if you don't you'll never be satisfied.
You won't need to cut your existing seat mounts, they are located in the right place for "G"body buckets. What I was referring to was the inner mounts you will have to take out of the junk yard car"Donor Car" and weld and/or bolt in your ride. Lots of luck which ever way you choose.

go through your local poke through yard and look for and mid 80's Monte
am not familiar with APC but the drop is not difficult, if you are not wrench friendly find a boyfriend that is (at least for the weekend that you have the seats installed)

Suzy, paying someone to do it right is a good thing but you are talking about 4 bolts (each side) not to difficult!?!

1 i dont want to bolt it to the pan because it is a safety issue and 2 i would have to make all new mounts for both sides and plus i dont no how to weld and im taking my car to a shop to have the floor pan fixed becuz it has a hole the size of a trash can lid...ill just have them put the seats in after they do the floor pan.....what ya think? reasonable or lazy?

kind of both. I went to my local corvette/camaro wrecker/salvage and they had a whole bunch of new camaro seats. I got a set of 92 Trans Am seats and only had to make one bracket out of 1/4X2 in. flat steel and drilled one hole in the rear bracket not hard. already had th 60/40.

eighty_five_el_camino what do u say, Suzy is a guy, hmmm, hey Matt how'd you come up with that name, is it what you call your ride?

Have you found seats yet? The local boneyard will probably be your best bet. I'm looking for a set of black leater (power) for my Elky (74). I plan on welding extra supports for the install.
