Was at the local K-Mart the other day picking up a prescripton and a few other things for my grandparents. Parked at least 4 stalls from any other car, went in for about an hour. Came back out and noticed this little yellow sticky thing on the side of the elky. It read "Nice Car, Sorry" With a smiley face drew on it. Took the thing off only to notice a dent about the size of a nickle punched in the side. Of course there's metal showing. Is there actually people who just drive around opening there doors to dent other peoples rides? I admit there's a few road chips on the thing cause it's an everyday driver but this is kinda ridiculous. I just don't get it.

I'd absolutly lose it if that happened to me. Probably would of went in to see if they had a parking lot video camera to at least find out who did it so I could go return the favor.

It kills me nowadays how people are. Friday a woman hit my wifes car. My wife said before the girl did anything she called her lawyer. I'm thinking this girl has been in a few accidents before. Once I was at the scene the girl was quiet and wouldn't say a thing (I'm thinking the manly man of a car Diablo intimidated her :) ) She said a little bit after she heard me say it did look like my wife did a failure to yield after the cops cited her for a failure to yield. Only after the fact did I notice that my wife was right and she really didn't see the girl because the girl was riding a SUV's butt that was taking a right turn offcenter to the left then shot around once the SUV scooted over. I wish I would of thought a little clearer once I was at the scene so I could of swayed the cops since they were borderline as to who was at fault.

On my daily driver I have one dent that looks like someone opened their door into the side but I really did it. Too bad I know how that one got there. I hit it myself with a metal bumper Corvette.

The worst that happened to me though was in 1987. It was at a K-Mart as well. Parked out at the end of the paking lot, minimum 12 cars from anything. I came out later to find TWO early mid 70's Ford wagons parked very close on either side! It had to be some sort of Candid Camera stunt.........

So...after reading this thread, I am thinking 2 things:

1) stay the heck outta K-Mart areas!! 8O

and 2) rubber-edged mouldings along the high point of my car!! :P

and I guess getting a sliding-glass rear window would work out well in case the Candid Camera crew shows up

Accckkkk, please tell me NO ONE has a sliding rear window on an gen of Elky.

The more I think of it though the more I think it was a deliberate action. With that said they can thank whatever god they have that they didn't accidentaly do that to my car. I would track them down and make them wish they never met me face to face. Geez, sore subject for me. When someone purposely vandalizes ones property because they don't have something as nice it really sets me off.....

Glad to see you're taking it better than me.

You don't know how much that **** pisses me off when people have no respect for another persons car!!! My '73 is a rust bucket and I don't care where I'm at but I will make a HUGE effort when getting into and out of my car not to hit another persons car just because I know the people with the nicer cars expect you to swing the door open and smash in there doors and fenders. I expect the same from other people, too. Stuff will happen and a big door can get away on a hill or some wind can catch it but be big about it and make appolgies face to face and let them know you meant no intened harm. Just because the ride is beat up doesn't mean you can kick it around!! Whoa to those who I catch carelessly dinging my ride!

Someone once opened a door onto my truck and knocked a dent into it about the size of a 50 cent piece. I was in such a rage, that it's probably a good thing I did not see him. He would have been missing some teeth. When I get that mad, I fear nothing and go into the attack mode.

Oh man I FEEL YOUR PAIN! This drives me nuts! I fear this stuff all the time. I always park as far away as possible, hoping I will have good luck and not find what you found.

This has happened to me before with my other cars and once with me in the car. I think that it is sometimes harder to deal with when they look at you and don't give a S#&T! Years ago this happened to me with my beautiful 69 Camaro RS....Old couple pulled up right next to me as I had just pulled in. The old woman NAILED my car door and did not even care. Back then there was no dent-removal services like today.

They did not even respond to me when I asked them for their insurance info and walked away. I was very young and should of dealt with it better but I didn't. When they walked into the store I but my boot into their rear quarter of one nice Buick and drove off.

Yep, I know what you mean. One takes just a little extra effort to park away from everyone else and "WHAM" some sorry individual nails your ride.
Several years back the better half and I were visiting her folks in PA, and I had a 55 Chevy 454(LS6)/M22 that was bad to the bone. Well it was parked all by itself in a huge parking lot and somehow (during the night) the right fender was totally destroyed. Needless to say not a soul around and I sorta became HULK-LIKE with the urge to choke the living s#@t out of someone, but it was probably a good thing no one was there, I would have gone to jail.

I take the opposite approach--instead of looking for the wide open spaces, I park it next to the newest, shiniest thing I can find and figure he'll be careful ;-)

I hate door dings but over the years I have developed strategies. Never, ever park next to a big old station wagon. Try to park at the end of a row, at least one side of the Elky won't be vulnerable. Parking next to a shiny new sports car or luxury car is always safer.

I agree with mrapii, setting it out by itself makes it a target for punks or holier than thou "fine upstanding pillars of the community".
I have never had a serious door ding, (for that matter a serious car)
and I have always parked as close to the door as possible, right in the middle of the crowd.

We did have somebody pull out of the post office against the flow and took the drivers door out. (we don't park it in the street anymore)

i got out from a movie the other day to find that the person in front of me pulled in hard enough to put their car's bumper ON TOP OF MINE!!! and left it that way to boot!
that's the first time i ever vandalized a car in my adult life. people like that must be made to pay.

That's what i do with both the elky and the vettes. Try to park on an end next to a "nice" car. ;)

i was mad enough to get really radical, but than i realized it might just be some old bastard who can't see and shouldn't be driving. the scarlet letter of a keyed paint job yells "i'm an a-hole" to others while not costing someone much money to fix.
i guess i'm getting soft in my old age. if this was my marine corps days, that car would have been flipped over.

it comes with the territory, you try , you do all the tricks and they still get you . if your a daily driver learn to live with it

I have you all beat- every single one of you(except for the guy who got his corner crushed...that sucks)

I park in my 2 car garage(with the third car useless thing) along with my brothers ford ranger. theres not ALOT of room, but enough for a down sydrome kid with cinderblocks attached to his arms to get out of his car with no problems. Since I bought the Mean Machine a year ago, I now have a total of twenty three dents in my passenger door ALONE(counted and varified). just in one big row. 23 dents. And i KNOW who did it! he walks past me every day!! But I cant do nothing. it is a slow embarassing torture. My parents wont let me charge him because it "wasnt his fault". wait....wasnt his hand on the door 23 times? you'd think he would learn after one, or two..come on. I guess thats why he drives a Ford.

Anyways, the twenty three on the passenger door, like two on the driver door. and one huge 7" gash down to metal from some unknown person. but thats another story. Various dents on rear bumber that look as if they were formed into the bumper(you guys got these?) and two on the tailgate. I cant cry anymore, all the tears are gone.... haha

After the engine gets bought we will see about new paint, i rather just spray black primer on her and let her ride like that haha.

I feel your pain.
