Steve84Ec 06-07-2004, 10:22 PM Does anyone here know of any big shows going on in florida? I can't wait until Turky run, but thats still many months away. Is there any other shows of the same caliber going on? If so i think that would be a good thing to schedule a meet around, that way if i show up and no one else does, i don't look like a total loser, lol. But seriously, we need to find something in a central area and get something going on, Region 6 is looking pathetic right now
PunkRican 06-07-2004, 11:08 PM yeah region 6 is kinda dead at teh moment, but if ur in central florida you can always go to Old Town on 192 every friday and saturday night. they have cruise nights and stuff. they get pretty crowded, but its no Turkey Run, still fun tho.
Steve84Ec 06-08-2004, 07:13 AM Oh yeah, i have been to that before, long time ago though. Our region director should be organizing some sort of meet though
PunkRican 06-08-2004, 03:31 PM well our regional director has been inactyive for quit a while is what teh problem is. so we dont really have one. some of the members try to get together every once in a while tho. you shoudl check out old town again, it grows and grows.
Steve84Ec 06-08-2004, 04:46 PM Every thursday here like a mile away there is a small cruise in, probably like 30 cars. Then once a month there is a larger one at the mall, the next one is June 26th, I plan on being at that one for sure. Some time in the next few months i'll make my way to old town, do you happen to know what days its on?
72ss454Florida 06-08-2004, 05:35 PM Steve, I think an Old Town trip would be great in like August. My car might be ready by then....not for 'show' mind you, but at least ready to make the drive ;)
We could see if we can get some of the folks in Region 6 to join us, and we could each even buy like a NECOA/El Camino Central t-shirt or something to distinguish us, and that would look cool as a group.
We could take pics and post them here too.
What do you say Jonathan? Could you make it to Old Town this summer?
Steve84Ec 06-08-2004, 06:28 PM I think something in august would be real good. That way everyone will have plenty of time to make sure that they can go. I like that idea a lot
85elcamino 06-08-2004, 07:54 PM im in but wheres old town???
72ss454Florida 06-09-2004, 06:34 AM Kissimmee...Irlo Bronson Highway, a couple miles east of I-4....
you can see the huge bungee 'swing' tower on the right. If you get in that general area, anyone can point it out to you.
Steve84Ec 06-09-2004, 06:06 PM Well we got a little group growing, hopefully by august we will have all the members of region 6 committed. Do you know what days they have this? is it like a saturday night cruise?, friday?, any clue?
72ss454Florida 06-10-2004, 07:27 AM I want to say Saturday Steve, but off the top of my head I dont remember for sure...
I will find out and post it here...
72ss454Florida 06-10-2004, 07:39 AM Everyone, here is the link to info about Old Town's Classic Car show:
It is Friday AND Saturday nights....
http://www.old-town.com/carshows.htm
However, a snag.....I did not realize that the 2 different nights were AGE graded with regards to cars....Friday nights for 73-87's and Saturday nights for 72's and older cars....
that may change our plans, or we could meet together, and go to the appropriate nights for our cars, but at least meet all together...
It would be great to see as many from Region 6 as we can get, to show up here one Friday and Saturday night. All wearing some identification as NECOA / ECC members!
Maybe we could shoot for August 14th, thats 10 weeks from this Saturday, or the next week of August 21st??
Should be sort of near the end of summer, but just before all the fall activities and football gets started....
Steve84Ec 06-10-2004, 03:19 PM Either one of those dates sounds good. I wish we could go on a Friday though, but with most peoples schedules that probably won't happen. So who else is in?
PunkRican 06-10-2004, 04:40 PM Old Town is literally like 15 minutes or so away from me depending on traffic. I can most likely make it on either day at whatever time of the year you gentlemen please. Gimme a date and time and I'll be there...hopefully. Don't know what condition the car will be in tho, so don't be disappointed. Real nice to see that were finally gettin something together, and so close to home :P . Well, I'll see ya'll there.
72ss454Florida 06-10-2004, 05:48 PM Either one of those dates sounds good. I wish we could go on a Friday though, but with most peoples schedules that probably won't happen. So who else is in?
I think I could make it for both nights, no problem. I mean its Orlando for crying out loud, so I know the wife can find PLENTY of places to spend money while I mess around with a bunch of 'old cars'... 8O I know none of you young buck's have ANY problems with wife's, but SOME of us do! :P
There are tons of hotels within a few blocks to stay. Heck I enjoy cars so much, I would be happy to stay over Friday night, then cruise with the 'real' classics ;) Saturday night and head home afterward. Its about 2 hours to home for me, but it will be worth it if I can get a few of you guys to show up and we can get Region 6 action going!
As for the dates, we can wait a while and see if we can drum up anymore to join us, and that is almost guaranteed to get someone with a scheduling problem that may narrow down a date.
85elcamino 06-10-2004, 08:10 PM ok now i remember old town used to go there alot love the place im definitely in just let me kno the date it will be cool to go back and spend some time up there 8)
Steve84Ec 06-11-2004, 08:13 AM This is sounding good, we should all private messege other region 6 members and tell them whats going on, because they may not always check this forum. Right now 4 is an alright number, but i know we can get more to go by august. And about the wife thing, I'm only 18, so i have nothing to deal with in that area as of yet :).
72ss454Florida 06-11-2004, 09:58 AM This is sounding good, we should all private messege other region 6 members and tell them whats going on, because they may not always check this forum.
great idea Steve! We can count on you to take the lead on that cant we? ;)
we'll help too. I emailed Peter O'Rourke last night at his email address at Daytona Beach Comm. College (he's a professor there) and told him, and invited him, but it came back as undeliverable. We should all try just in case it was a problem with my email.
Anyway, now I REALLY have to get busy working on the car..... 8O
Steve84Ec 06-11-2004, 01:55 PM I sent messeges to everyone(not including the people already knowing) in region 6. Also, I'm registering to take classes in the fall at dbcc, maybe one day i'll actually meet O'rourke, lol.
wow you guys are really out there....ok, if old town is the best area for everyone let's meet there in august, either the 14 or 21 it has to be on a sat for the older cars but I will try to get us a special feature day When we arrive early and are featured on the street then kick off the cruise at 8:30pm so it won't matter about the year of your "elky" as we are a groupI'm changing ,engine s in my 59 but hope to be running by then.anyone need a 327 or 348....?I'll keep you up to date on this forum my e-mail is orourkp@dbcc.edu
72ss454Florida 06-14-2004, 10:55 AM Sounds good Peter. I like the idea of being the 'featured' group/club!
That would be cool.
Now we just need to get some more folks to join us. It aint gonna be much of a 'group' to feature with like 4 cars 8O
Steve84Ec 06-14-2004, 12:50 PM I think we are at 5 cars right now, hopefully there will be more by then. I'm gonna for sure have to bring the digital camera to this one.
PunkRican 06-14-2004, 12:54 PM wow, he's finally back. good to have you here Peter, weve been leader less for a while now.
I think I'm probably in, I can't really plan taht far ahead but hopefully there won't be a problem. Anyways, just keep me updated and all, see you guys out there.
Steve84Ec 06-14-2004, 06:57 PM peter, just wondering, what engine are you going with in your camino?
you asked for it , you got it ....august 14th ,,,9am old town in kissimmee fl

show your car..........SHOW YOU CARE....

That sounds great Peter!
I am getting excited....and worried as my Elky is showing signs of not cooperating on looking even marginally good enough for cruising that show! (it needs paint, a carb, seat belts, front brake work..and I need to win the lottery first to fix all this :( )
but I WILL be at the show....maybe I can just ride with Jonathan or Steve during the parade 8O  :P
Steve84Ec 06-15-2004, 10:48 AM "but I WILL be at the show....maybe I can just ride with Jonathan or Steve during the parade "
lol, my car is nice for a daily driver, but it is no show car. I think you will probably have to go with Jonathon on that one. Also, mine doesn't make the age limit, only an 84, so i'll be watching for that one.
72ss454Florida 06-15-2004, 04:33 PM no Steve you dont have to watch. Peter said that since we are going as a 'feature' group, all our club's cars get to go thru the parade which goes through Old Town in the evening....
I guess you can also display yours during the day as featured group.
So you get to ride proudly. We need to spread the word to all Elky lovers in our areas. I am going to make up a few little simple flyers or maybe better, hand printed notes, that basically say what's going on for the event, telling also about this ECC forum, and that way whenever I see some Elky's or Sprints, etc (there is one near me I see all the time), I will leave it on their windshield.
It may bring a few more into the fold. I may give my phone number maybe or at least an email address as well as the URL for this website....
okay, here's something I banged out real quick. Kind of wordy, but I wanted to give someone the full idea of whats going on. The copy I made has the ECC logo (like at the top of this page) on it, and looks pretty good. I can send you guys a copy (its in Word format) if you want to tweak the text to be in your own words...

Hello, I noticed your nice car and thought you might like to know something about us.
El Camino Central (elcaminocentral.com) is the online home of the National El Camino Owner’s Association. The association actively supports the preservation, promotion, ownership and enjoyment of the Chevrolet El Camino and its GMC brother models. The association promotes the exchange of member's experiences as a useful tool for those new to the El Camino experience. From factory fresh restorations to basket case and project bound El Caminos, every owner is welcome.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to log on and check out the forums, and the topics of interests. If you are needing technical help with a El Camino problem, someone may be able to help. We have member galleries where members can post pictures of their Elky's, with captions, so others can admire it – all free of charge.
Did I mention the site is free?? Registration is free! All this for no charge. I hope that you can join us soon.
On ECC, we refer to the El Camino’s and owners by the ‘generation’ (body style) of their car. The 1st Generation is 1959-1960 El Camino’s. 2nd Gen’s are 1964-1967. 3rd Gen’s are 1968-1972. 4th Gen’s are 1973-1977, and 5th Generation El Camino’s are 1978-1988.
We have also divided ourselves into geographical ‘regions’ in order to promote comraderie with people near us, as well as hopefully attend car shows and even host our own in local regions. Florida is Region 6 on ECC. Georgia is in Region 7.
In Region 6 (Florida) we are planning a get-together at Old Town in Kissimmee on Irlo Bronson Highway (about 3 miles east of I-4). In case your dont know about Old Town, every Friday and Saturday nights they have a car show, and a ‘cruise’ through Old Town.
We are planning a cruise on August 14th, and we are to be the featured group, meaning we will all lead off the cruise as a group through Old Town.
We would really enjoy it if you could join us. No entry fee. We hope you will log on and read the Forums section, and near the bottom you will see the Region Forums where you can check out more about the event, and meet others in the area.
If you would like more information, please either see elcaminocentral.com, or feel free to email me at mrmjts1@msn.com
My ECC nickname is: 72ss454Florida.
Thanks

Michael:
Could you send me the word doc as well? Myself, and a few others are trying to organize region 8. Ohio & West Virginia, as well as Kentucky and Indiana.
It is worded very well, I can revise to fit our needs.
Thanks a bunch,
Elky77

72ss454Florida 06-15-2004, 09:00 PM You bet Mike....its on its way now.
a73elkyss 06-15-2004, 09:12 PM Hey Michael. Very nicely worded and well put. The only thing I might add would be something about not having to give up any local club affiliation that they may already have. I've talked to some people about joining, and stressing that the do NOT have to quit their local club.
By the way, can you email me the Word doc to use??? Thanks. My email is jlevitan@holycross.edu
72ss454Florida 06-15-2004, 09:29 PM JW, thanks. Thats a good idea about the club affiliation. I know I dont want to have to give up mine with North Florida Chevelles, and it wont hurt to reassure others they dont either.
Thanks, and the doc's on its way now.
PunkRican 06-15-2004, 10:58 PM read the flyer...i'm likin it. think maybe you could e-mail it to me so i can print out a few to put up? i may drop by old town soem time and see if tehre's any elkys there that aren't in on it yet, and put up a few flyers in a highly popular place when i go to a concert this thrusday.

Steve84Ec 06-16-2004, 04:49 PM This thing is coming together pretty good. How do we get a bulliten put up on the main page? maybe that way some Florida people that aren't checking the boards will happen to see that. Maybe snag a few more that way 8)
PunkRican 06-16-2004, 07:08 PM so this seems to be turning out nicely...but what are our instrcution? when do we show? what do we do? where do we go? kinda in a dazed and confused state now....like a lost little dog. i need a rest....
no j/k, but seriously i want complete instructions on what to do show day and all. i know we've got it since 9 a.m. but seriously...that's a bit of a long time to spend at old town on saturday. oh and are we wanting to get ECC shirts or soemthin to wear there? cause if not i have a shirt that has an elky on it, it's pretty damn sweet. but i was thinking of buying a shirt anyways, should we do a group buy and maybe get a little discount for us job-less children?
a shirt would be darn nice....
85elcamino 06-16-2004, 08:38 PM august 14th is gunna be great not only will it be filled with elcaminos but its also my 17th birthday.....so what kind of presents shall i be expecting from everyone :D
Steve84Ec 06-17-2004, 07:14 PM Hey Peter, I went to that Highlander show today, saw your car. Man that thing is awesome. I never really had a thing for the 1st gens, but after seeing that, i see why you do. That thing is real nice. I hungout there for a bit to look for you, but i was with my girlfriend, she looked bored, so we took off. I saw the flyers you had, looked pretty good. Old town is gonna be a lot of fun
