: Happy day in Region 6!
rtatwk 11-22-2011, 11:23 AM There are 3 members here smiling wide enough to knock the DDD off of his computer chair in Texas! My 72 (the rest of it) was just parked in my shop...Carretera is on his way back South with his Caballero...And Sterlingsilver just took delivery on the 84 with TPI that he took in trade for an engine job on a Camaro.
YEEEE HAW!!!!! :florida:
rtatwk 11-22-2011, 12:20 PM La Carretera is back in Business! La vida es bueno!
Chris Nelson 11-22-2011, 02:25 PM Say What ? Let me get this straight,Tony bought your Cabby !!& you bought that 72 frame off Camino...R U S..tting me ?
rtatwk 11-22-2011, 02:37 PM No Tony gave his Elky to his Son when he bought the 55 Chevy...Then got the Son's Cabby that was originally his too and is a cruck carrying (Literally) member again.....Well I was going to avoid the trailer queen pokes.
rtatwk 11-22-2011, 03:56 PM Ok I had to do a photobucket thing to get a few pics here. Even trying shots with my I-phone was getting pics too big to post.
Here is the link http://s738.photobucket.com/albums/xx29/rtatwk/3rd%20Gen%20Project/
DDD Take a close look at what you can see of the frame! The one under the 59 I've been trying to hook you up with is done the same! But I don't expect you to pay close attention...I couldn't even give you a pair of OEM seat belts that you need!
:florida:  :texas:
Oh yes and that is an OEM cowl hood that is still new (never on a car) sitting there on top of the lawn tractor cart!
Lenny Carey 11-22-2011, 04:03 PM With you three , it sounds more like the Devil`s Triangle to Me . :poke: . I give it a big " Hubba Bubba " !!
skinyfisher 11-22-2011, 04:48 PM This all looks like work to me, good luck and Feb. is almost here Randy you better hurry Tony will have it done in a week.
rtatwk 11-22-2011, 05:13 PM I borrowed some GMC centers from El Dawgg and will have the Cabby ready to take the 'stock' class for Super Chevy. The 72 will take a bit longer to get going.
sterlingsilver 11-22-2011, 07:14 PM Well the buddy for my 81 came home today .84 Conquista i'm the third owner .She's got a gm crate 350 in her with only 18,000 miles on it with tpi (trans was refreshed at same time).Hard bed cover, power windows, dual exaust, newly recovered seat , new car cover , new air conditioning and a bunch of extra parts including the orignal motor.Over the last couple of years i had already redone the brake system and rebuilt the steering and steering collum swithes ,tilt etc for the guy . I've been try'in to get it from him all this time and wouldnt part with it till now. He was starting to have a few issues with the tpi and we were getting ready to get into fixing that when he blew up his z28 (parts through the oil pan just for starters). So we made a deal .I wish i coulda kept that 355 i built for him "sweet" but the new elk was worth it !The 84 elk is in real good condition , paint needs a little tlc but theres no rust.Theres a few wiring issues to deal with and i'm going to mount the computer correctly (it's slopply mounted on the passenger side kinda sticking out from under the dash) . Other than a lag if you give it to much gas when starting out it runs good (gets 17 -18 mpg on highway) .Once i get the little things taken care of its getting a 5 spd or overdrive trans (like i did to my 81 ) Kinda long winded but thats the scoop .The link to the pics is below. O ya Randy El Dawg said now that we got you squared away on the 72. He'd try to get you some pics of the 59 or when i'm over there I could take some for you and send them in a email. :driving: http://s1107.photobucket.com/albums/h393/Sterlingelcamino/
EdontheBeach 11-23-2011, 04:01 PM holy moly! triplicates!!!
Carretera 11-23-2011, 04:57 PM Got home about an hour ago, 14 1/2 hours. If you notice the painting on the hood is the skull Kurt Russel had on the Nova in Deathproof, my son got a little creative. The only thing I have to do to get it perfect is move in with Neal!Glad to see Sterling got a great deal, looking forward to seeing it. And Randy it's good you got your '72.Region 6 ROCKS!By the way I got my CARRETERA plate back, my son took it off the minute he got the '80.
skinyfisher 11-23-2011, 05:26 PM Great Tony glad al is OK and you had no issues getting you told war horse home. Sounds like the hood is going to get some paint or lock out work soon to remove the creative art work.
Lenny Carey 11-26-2011, 07:12 AM These three guys are having too much fun . I`m jealous ! Tony , I like the Deathproof Skull , it has a little  to it .
skinyfisher 11-26-2011, 08:02 AM That kind of graphics will give us over the hill truckers a bad persona that's for the tattoo generation, but it is Tonys Cruck and he will do his thing with it, slam it, shave it, wheel it with 22" , a simple and cool stripe or graphic but not the death skull. Big nasty engine and A/C for sure.
The really artsee graphics we will leave to the Conch Mobile, Lenny have they named your car the official Key West custom yet, and are you leading the big parade with a bed full of strange clothed persons:poke::poke::dontknow:
Lenny Carey 11-27-2011, 07:20 AM Tattoos ! That`s what we should all do ; including the ladies , is to get a BIG El Camino tattoo to show our love for our rides . Let`s get Hotcamino to draw up a design for it . We could then have the design made available to NECOA members on Zazzle . Let`s start submitting our ideas . Jay , Joan will not allow me to ride around with people wearing strange clothes any more . She is running out of outfits to wear and does not think I look good in that paisley sun dress :poke: .
skinyfisher 11-27-2011, 10:34 AM Lenny "I SAID THE TATTOO GENERATION" that is not us or for sure not ME.
I thought you were the GRAND MARSHALL of the Key West parade of of of of Ya you know.
rtatwk 11-28-2011, 11:36 AM Uhhhh...I'll pass on the tattoo and the sundress as well, but I will still give either one of you a ride...And you don't have to ride in the back either.
skinyfisher 11-28-2011, 03:02 PM I am relieved Randy as no one rides in the back of El Chromeo with that Chrome BED :poke::secret:
Carretera 11-29-2011, 08:59 AM Growing up only sailors and bikers had tattoos, and girls had earrings! I agree with Jay about the Deathproof skull, we'll see what develops, now Cristian, Mathews brother wants to keep the Caballero and join NECOA!
Lenny Carey 12-13-2011, 06:30 AM Hey , we haven`t heard from you three for a little while . What`s the latest on your new acquisitions ? :dontknow:
rtatwk 12-15-2011, 06:19 AM Mine is going to sit tight until after the holidays. Just have to make a trip to Orlando to return the engine cradle to Sterlingsilver and the load leveler lift piece to El Dawgg. Have to pick up other essentials like all of the keys and title too along with the 72 tags to use when it becomes road worthy. I have some things in motion though. Already have a 700R4 built and ready to become a part of it and am working on same for the Hotcamino??? Located a Transmission for Carretera too and trying to get it in hand for building. Got some interior door panels the other night and bases for the armrests. Slowly working on inventory of parts that will be extra for sale or trade. 464 Elky helped me out yesterday with identification of a complete heater box assembly...Wow! those things are pricey!
After the holidays it will be get to work time. Rearrange the shop for room. Install an overhead lift to raise the body back off. Build and set body on a base with large casters for mobility. And get to work!
Well that is my part. I'll check in on Sterlingsilver's next week and Carretera is waiting for me to get his transmission built. I think he said that the engine is nearly ready and he has located a crossmember that is needed for this swap back to Auto with OD.
Carretera 12-15-2011, 08:46 AM Transmission Randy refers to is for the '55, the Caballero is definetely being taken over by Cristian although I'm planning on trailering it to some of the closer shows like Super Chevy.
rtatwk 12-15-2011, 12:33 PM The guy never answered his phone all day yesterday or return previous calls. He did answer today and the 2004R will be picked up this evening (by my Son) and delivered to the builder tomorrow. Hang in there Tony! It is in the works.
Carretera 12-15-2011, 04:50 PM Picking up the engine Saturday, the MAN comes through again! :nanawrench:
sterlingsilver 12-15-2011, 07:06 PM Sorry I haven't been back to give an update but I been real busy . Then someone tried to hack my router ,they didnt get through but my internet was messed up for a couple of days till I got time to fix it and make sure they didnt get in. I went ahead and changed all our passwords and pin # for everything just to be safe though. Otherwise i've been busy fixin other peoples stuff which is good with christmas and stuff needed for my toys .I am getting close on the wifes firebird putting a new roller sm blk in it (warmed up a little , good street motor).Just need to either redo the 700r4 for it .Was going to do the trans my self but i'm thinking of having Randy's tranny guy do it .So I sent Randy a message on that today. As far as my new elk i've been talkin to Randy and El Dawgg about it ,it runs good but not right . The guy that instaled the tpi did a sloppy job .So I guess i'm going to just redo the install .Fuel lines ,wiring ,vacuum lines etc. Other wise i'm putting in elec fan and either cold air kit or my own custom breather set up .Might change wheels too thinking about it. And i'm looking for over drive trans to put in it the 350 trans in it is almost new but that o.d would be nice.lastly i'm looking to see how to get my factory guages to work with the tpi setup (they changed the whole front wiring harness)my speedo and gas guage work but not the oil, volts or tach.Any help on that would be great (thanks). I could be drving it now but i'll probably just get the above stuff done and then start drving it around my b-day next month.I also got a few things going on my 81 elk but i'll let you in on that later.Lenny I left you a message on possible get together spot hollar at me when you can i'll give you the info I also let Randy know about it. well :driving:later guys.
