Juan,

It has been a long time since I have needed a machine shop. The one I used went out of business long ago. I know that there is a Goodies shop in downtown San Jose. I am not sure if they offer machining but they have been around forever. You may just give them a call and see what services they do offer or, if they have a referral.

Im not sure if your familiar with Gotellis here in south San Francisco but I went the other day and they gave me the names of a couple places in the area, I'm disassembling the short block and hope to have the block bare by Monday. Might need some work on the crank because the first piston and connecting rod I pulled today knocked the crank and gave it a nice little mark:let_it_all_out: nothing bad tho

Is it possible to sand blast a block? I might go that route instead because the block is in great shape, it just has rust

if the rust is light in the cylinder bores, you can use a fine grit sand paper to remove the rust and then use a cylinder hone on the end of your drill to put a nice cross hatch pattern on the cylinder walls. DO NOT sand blast; those walls need to be smooth for the piston rings. If you need help let me know, I'm in SF not too far from you

Thanks for the info! I'm not too worried about the cylinder wall rust it Is prettylihht, some was even coming off with just some wd40 and rubbing it, but it's a little heavier in other areas. I'm just worried about the rust int the water jackets and other little areas. Most of it isnt too bad. It's for my 4runner btw so I only have 6 cylinders to worry about! Hahah this is my first time removing a motor and looking at all the internals so it's Definetly a huge learning expirenrce

I don't think there is anything that you can sand blast on a block other than the exterior. Most of the gunk and rust is normally removed in a bath. I think they use a mild acid but, this is not an area that I have tons of experience in. The machine shop will know best what it takes to make sure it is serviceable and ready for rebuilding. You will know by how hard things are to get apart where the damage is. If it froze up, something had to have broken or jammed somewhere. Make sure there are no cracks in the block. Weak blocks can fail between the water jacket and the cylinder causing lots of fun damage.

Yup I already found out how fun this stuff is lol. The motor is for my 90 4runner which threw 2 rods so I bought this short block for it with only 30k original miles, . It was in a fire in the early 90s and has been in storage ever since. I didn't do much today other than a little garage cleaning I have parts everywhere! Haha
