: New horse in the barn
mnunn 11-26-2011, 05:32 AM Hi Region 2.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
Call me crazy, impulsive, or a car-junkie but I just bought an 85 Elky to add to my collection of 4 wheeled projects that drain my wallet and stuff my calendar. Seems to be all original except for some bodywork and a repaint. 135K miles. Q-jet sits atop the 305 V8. It has PS, PB, AC and a 3 speed automatic. It even has the smuggler's box curtain and the plastic spare tire pull-out handle. May even have the original spare tire. Rear frame appeared decent, but i haven't inspected it closely. Needs body work and a paint job (Next summer I hope).
Hopes are it'll replace my 68 Rambler as my daily driver (which has been fun to drive but is now getting very tired).
Will post some pics in the gallery in the next week or so.
Oh yea... One more thing. Prev owner(s) saved the factory build sheet. One of the codes is Z15.

ssr71 11-26-2011, 06:57 AM Aren't you sooo glad you don't live in California? Can you imagine your annual registration costs for all of those cars?
I too have been looking for something to add to my "collection". However, I'm looking for something a bit different. Still a 70-72 A body... but not an Elky, and not a Chevelle (though I did look at some for a while).
CANTED 11-26-2011, 07:00 AM Good score, Mike.

What? ...
California reg fees are minimal...
it's 3% of total vehicle value (Value reassessed annually) + Smog Check + Roads and Highway fees + Budget reduction fees + environmental impact fee + Consumer Assistance Program fee + homeless cats and dogs fees + spotted owl relocation fee + LGBT fees (San Francisco residents only) + action film star/bodybuilder/Governor retirement fees. :dontknow:
el Bandido 11-29-2011, 05:51 PM Mike - I can't wait to see it !
A daily (April - November anyway) el Camino driver has been on my wish list for a long time... you lucky little dog

LOL!!!
Tempting. BBC/G-body installs getting more and more common, but I think not.
Buddy of mine with an LS-2 in a 66 Rambler says I should stick an LS motor in it. I think he just wants "company" so he's not the only LS lobotomy at the local cruise night.
Naw, for now at least the plan is to keep her stock as possible, even with the anemic 150 net advertized HP. When I want to go fast, I'll jump in my 3.8 V6 Windstar (just kidding).

Hmmm... an LS in a G Body sounds like a fun project. But I do have bad case of can't leave well enough alone!
I do like a nice stocker, and that sounds like one. Can't wait to see the pics!

mnunn 03-05-2012, 03:49 PM Still no pictures to share. Sorry. I wasn't quick enough to nab them from Craigslist before the seller removed the ad, and the weather's been lousy here.
Also, had a lot of work to do on the car so far. Idler arm, license plate holder, bad headlight and worst of all, rusted out floorboards all caused it to flunk state inspection.
Reattempt is tomorrow. Hopefully it'll go well and I can start driving this car regularly.
Thanks Ernie for the floorboards. They really saved the day.
Really looking forward to sidelining the 68 Rambler and making the 85 SS my daily driver.
Pics will arrive, eventually.
el Bandido 03-05-2012, 05:39 PM So Mike this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4iMyBoaA7c&feature=player_embedded is the look & feel & type of power your going for - right?
mgs72elky 03-21-2012, 08:57 PM Looking forward to some pics there Bubba.... Let's see that new "horse". Although I have no doubt it'll be sweet when your done with it, somehow I don't think ol Ruby will play second fiddle.
Glad for ya Mike.
