I'm working in Pennsauken NJ this week and the hotel I'm staying at is in Philladelphia PA. I've noticed that in Philladelphia the self-serve price for regular gas is $2.07/gal and across the Delaware River in NJ the full-serve price for regular is $1.87/gal. What gives here folks? Why is full-service cheaper than self-service?

Oh, and can somebody tell me why there are no self-serve gas stations in NJ? Don't you folks in NJ know how to pump your own gas?

Some states have outlawed self service gas pumps. I suspect NJ is one of them.

I live in TN, just 7 miles north of the Gerogia state line. Most of the time, gasoline is 10 - 20 cents per gallon cheaper in Georgia due to lower gasoline taxes. As soon as the oil companies fegure out how to do it legally, they will change this too.

I think New Jersey and Oregon are the only 2 states where you can't pump your own gas. This was done to save the jobs of the gas station attendants.

spoonplugger is right, the difference in price is primarily due to state tax differences. There are other small factors too.

You guys are luckly with your "cheap gas". I live in Oregon and the place I live in it's $2.15 a gallon!!! :x And that was just today, it was $2.19!!! Out here in Oregon and Washington we have the two of the highest gas taxes in the U.S. No matter what I'll make sacrifice's, and still drive my El Camino no matter what the circumstances are. I've been cruising in El Camino's and Chevelles since 1977 and I aint stopping yet!!! 8)

Want to see how your state dips into your pocket? US Gasoline Taxes by State (http://www.energy.ca.gov/gasoline/statistics/gas_taxes_by_state_2002.html)

Cheapest price posted for PA is $1.69 currently. Some relief is in sight possibly???

US Gasoline Taxes by State
Interesting.

Rhode Island, the smallest state, has the 5th highest tax. Must be because we have so much highway to keep in shape. This state is less than 40 miles east to west and about 50 miles north to south. Wonder where the rest of the money goes?

Maybe they've been saving up to pave the entire state and turn it into a parking lost for Boston commuters???

Just saw gas price drop 5-cents since yesterday at BJs Warehouse club. Down to $1.79

Hey Ernie, if you do NOT want to find out where the extra money is going, ask your favorite state politician.
