Howdy , guys...
Gettin ready to put in a set of AirBags in my '82 , and I got a problem. The kit came w/a couple of 'exhaust heat shields' ( plain metal rectangals, w/tab notches). The instructions say I need 2 to 3 inches clearance between the exhault pipe and the spring/airbag. I ain't got it ; I got only ~1 inch between the muffler output pipe (tailpipe?) ( on the drivers side) and the spring. the muffler ( no converter) has dual pipes out ( only 1 in), and theres really no room to move it around . the way I see it , I got 3 options:
1) take the Elky to a muffler shop, and have them 'gain me some room' . I don't really want the hassle/expense, but will if I Have to.
2) install 'as is' and pray for the best... maybe try to get one of the 'heat shieds' in there. it will be close, and may burn/bust the air bag, but at least repalcements are cheap & easy enough ( ~$20).
3) find some way to couteract the heat.... I was thinking of exhaust/header rap, but came across this:
http://www.koolmat.com/heatmast.shtml
SpaceAge Polymers & NASCAR... WooHoo!. I figure I could get by w/~ a 3 x 8 inch piece, and hose clamp it on the close part.
Wadda y'all think?
as always, THANKS for all the help!
