I might have messed up. After removing the engine and tranny from our 84, we seperated the tranny from the engine. At that time I didn't mark the relationship of the convertor to the flex palte. When I go to reinstall does anybody think there will be any problems?
On a second note, the convertor is seperate from the tranny, should I bolt it to the flex plate then attache the bell housing or put the convertor back on the tranny first?

Install the flexplate onto the engine. Slide the converter onto the trans input shaft and install trans. Fasten converter to the flexplate now. The fact that you didnt mark the disassembly of the plate and converter shouldnt make any difference. Good Luck.

All torque converters are balanced (note the welded on balancing weights) so it doesn't make a difference as to position.

Yea, what they said. Bolt the flex plate to the engine. Use a torque wrench if you have one. Put about a quart of fluid in the converter, if any spilled out, and slide it on the transmission. Two important points here. Put some fluid on the part of the converter that slides into the trany, this will help the life of the front seal. And also, make sure that you spin the converter untill it slips into place on the trans drive. If it doesn't slide in properly you will have a hard time tightening the bolts to the flex plate.

As far as I know no fluid leaked out. But where would you put the fluid in anyway. Also, the flexplate is already attached to the engine.
Thanks.

If you had to, you would just pour it into the opening of the converter. But since none spilled out you don't need to worry about it. It's just easier filling the converter than pouring it into the trany and having it cycle through and into the converter. It takes more time, and you don't want to over fill it. Take your time.
